Commentary: The Good, The Great & The Ugly

It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: Whether you were ready for it or not, Sunday marked the bi-annual time change across the continent. In Saskatchewan, you noticed when the NFL games started an hour earlier. Here in Florida, we were recalling the phrase “Spring forward, fall back” when it came to remembering how to set the clocks on the wall and microwave.

I like this time better. I’m an early riser so in this scenario, the sun comes up earlier. The word around here is President Donald Trump feels the same way and is about to scrap Daylight Savings Time altogether.

Can you imagine?!

Next the great: Somebody said after Game 7 of the World Series that they were glad baseball was over so that the CFL would take centre stage.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, and maybe that person was right. I’d heard from many folks who didn’t even know the CFL playoffs had started so there’s little doubt they were being overshadowed by the Blue Jays.

But regardless of what your sports focus is now, history will show that it was a great season for the over-achieving Blue Jays and they’ll be back before you know it. Pitchers and catchers report in February.

And finally the ugly: Who didn’t see this coming? The Dallas Cowboys hosted the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football and while I boasted that it should be a Cowboys romp – particularly against a Cardinals team who’d lost five in a row and were playing with a back-up quarterback – it was the upset of the week as Arizona walked out of Jerry World with a 27-17 victory.

While my phone buzzed with friends jeering, that didn’t bother me at all. Dak Prescott was below average, the kicker missed kicks, the defense gave up huge plays, and the Cowboys displayed what a dysfunctional unit that they are.

But I’ve detached, and slept like a baby. Lemme know if you ever wanna know how to do the same.
