Friday Commentary: Sluggish

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:

#1 – OMG are the Leafs bad. I know, I know, people have been saying it all year but I got to witness it firsthand last night as the Florida Panthers spanked Toronto 5-1 here in Sunrise. Half the Panthers were in the Olympics so I expected a sluggish start but it was the Leafs who were sluggish.

There should be a lot more pride go into wearing that jersey than what I saw in back-to-back games in the Sunshine State this week.

#2 – Not taking the bait. My inbox is full of messages from Trumpers, and Trump-haters, in the wake of the USA hockey “scandal” this week. I gave my thoughts on the matter – if you’re invited to the White House or Parliament Hill, you go – and if that upsets people, then don’t watch.

I’m too old to get draw into something. Well maybe not too old, but I definitely don’t have the energy for a back-and-forth on this.

Maybe it’s finally … maturity!

#3 – Will you spend ANY time watching the NFL Combine in Indy this weekend? Studies show you won’t, but my TV usually spends some time on the NFL Network on weekends. Hey, it’s not the NFL’s fault that the Combine is boring. They’ve gotta do this, and my guess is back when it started, it wasn’t nationally-televised. Perhaps it’s run its course as a TV event?

And #4 – People are up-in-arms that TSN made a post promoting the upcoming leagues and events (like the Masters) in 2026 for every league BUT the CFL, and they carry the games.

Let’s enjoy watching the fallout! Commissioner Stewart Johnston is the former President of TSN.
