Tuesday Commentary: Clock’s Ticking

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly. We’ve got plenty of all three!
First the good: It’s become quite difficult to ignore the TGL Finals which are going on just up the road in Jupiter, Florida. It’s the Tiger Woods-inspired and owned indoor golf league featuring the best golfers in the world. Night 1 of the Best of 3 finals went Monday with Los Angeles up against Jupiter and as an added flair, Florida Panthers and USA Hockey star Matthew Tkachuk was on hand showing of his Olympic gold medal to the masses. The golf crowd is tittilated that Tiger will participate in Game 2 tonight.
I tuned in for a bit Monday – it was good – but would suggest only hardcore golfers need apply.
Next the great: To me it’s not dissimilar to the growing hysteria around Flag Football. A team of NFL stars got the brakes beat off ‘em in the inaugural Fanatics Flag Football event in LA on the weekend and now the football community’s split over how they’re going to win gold at the LA Olympics (should they keep the current Mens National Team roster or get the NFL’ers up to speed?).
Meanwhile Team Canada head coach Paul LaPolice is having a good laugh over the Americans chasing their tail! I spoke to Lapo on Monday and Team Canada is a couple of years ahead of the USA in terms of preparing for the LA Games but we still got two years to go so this is going to be fun to watch unfold.
Many say it’s not “real football” and have paid the sport no mind. I think they’ll change their tune as the Olympics approach.
And finally the ugly: There’s a month to go till the Stanley Cup Playoffs so that means there’s plenty of time for contending teams to work out the kinks. However the comments from Connor McDavid from the weekend – marveling at Tampa Bay’s coaching while throwing shade at his own – can’t be the best recipe for Oiler success in the short- and long-term.
Like I said — the clock’s ticking. But I’m not counting them out.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

That Paul Maurice article aligns with McDavids assertion. Marcel Dionne scored 700+ goals and had 18 Head Coaches in his career. Guy Lafleur would have been interchangeable and had Scotty Bowman. Paul Maurice has his sidekick Charlie Huddy. Their team are air tight. If Edmonton were serious. They would pull a NJ move and toss Knobloch a week before playoffs. It is not working so for the Tournament back up a Brinks Truck or digital currency to bring in Pete Deboer. Other than that enjoy the McDavid farewell tour. 2026 off season will show you how Gen Z was raised.… Read more »
Always something with McBaby, he’s not a good ambassador for the game of hockey, always a sourpuss interview that never smiles, a negative pouting attitude always.
I’m thinking I’m on McDavid’s side on this one. Oiler management is bottom tier, they haven’t had an impact defenceman since Chris Pronger and they haven’t had an NHL calibre goalie since Bill Ranford.
Oilers management top tier, 🤣🤣🤣🤣
