Wednesday Commentary: NHL Random Thoughts

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday on this Commentary and here’s a disclaimer: It’s allllll NHL. (Almost)
#1 – We said last year’s stretch drive of the NHL regular season was the best ever. Till this year. Don’t look know but some teams have come outta nowhere to make things wild, including Columbus who beat Detroit and now stands just two points out of a playoff spot with four games to go.
If they make it in, they’ll be just the second team in this playoff format to make the playoffs after being in last place at New Years. The only other team to do it? The 2019 St. Louis Blues who went on to win the Stanley Cup.
#2 – If you’re an Oilers fan, I can give you some good techniques to deal with Anxiety. I watched most of their game at Utah last night and they seemed to have it well in hand! Then I check the score this morning, and they lost 6-5 in extra time to the Mammoth. This team is beyond maddening. All I can suggest is, try to enjoy the ride. Honestly, at last they’re not the Flames.
#3 – A Flames fan wrote into the RP Show this week and asked if Calgary will ever be good. I had to be honest and answered “I don’t know”. Sorry.
#4 – It was a bad night for Florida teams. The Panthers lost 4-3 in a shootout at Montreal (the game was fun though) and Tampa Bay got trounced 6-2 in Ottawa. The Senators are by far the most manic team in the NHL.
And #5 – It’s Round 2 of the WHL Playoffs. Please tell me you’re paying attention! For the southerners, the Pats, Warriors and Broncos are all toast but for the northerners, the Blades and Raiders are meeting in the Conference semifinals and those joints are going to be jumping! Medicine Hat and Calgary are meeting in the other and that’s a pretty special pairing too.
The most wonderful time of year, indeed.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
