A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:

#1 – I’m not sure if it’s a case of “If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em” or what, but I’m sure enjoying this World Cup. Are you?

It doesn’t hurt that we were hired by global crypto casino BCGame to host a Livestream of the Canada/Qatar game on Thursday – I wouldn’t have been as into it otherwise – but holy smokes am I ever glad we did! Canada won 6-0 for the country’s first-ever World Cup victory and it was one of the most-viewed Watch-A-Longs in the platform’s history! Imagine if we knew what we were doing. 😉

The soccer folk and fans have been incredibly welcoming and have adopted the attitude of “the more the merrier!” And it feels like this country is about to go off, if it hasn’t already.

It really reminds me of our movement to turn Florida people onto NHL hockey. We don’t care if you never followed before. There’s no time like the present!

#2 – There’s no doubt this World Cup has wreaked havoc on the CFL schedule and been a royal pain in the butt for our favourite football league but, bigger is bigger. They’ve made the most of it and Week 3 kicks off tonight with BC at Hamilton, followed by the Saturday tripleheader.

We tried to make our picks on the RP Show on Thursday but got hung up on the BC-Hamilton game and ran out of time!

That’s what Football Friday is for.

And #3 – This whole Edmonton Oilers coaching situation is really weird. They wouldn’t have gone through all these hoops to hire Mike Babcock – including triggering an NHL investigation into his past – if they weren’t serious about it, yet you still have to wonder if the Saskatoon product is the best option?

I mean if you have the choice between Bruce Cassidy and Babcock, I don’t think it’s close but for some reason the Cassidy-to-Edmonton thing isn’t happening and I’d been told it would.

But I’m not burning too many calories on it. It’s the weekend.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
