Tuesday Commentary: Brindy’s Right

It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly! Let’s have a look …

First the good: The football’s been really good and the storylines are amazing. In the NFL, here are the unbeaten (2-0) teams through two weeks: the Chiefs, Raiders, Bengals and Bills in the AFC and the Eagles, Vikings, Seahawks and 49ers in the NFC. Who’s a contender and who’s a pretender? Fun to debate.

The CFL is in the homestretch and in the West, if you look at the standings, it’s Edmonton and then everybody else. This Riders-at-Lions game on Friday is MASSIVE!

Next the great: I see Carolina head coach Rod Brindamour is lobbying the NHL to abolish the preseason and go straight to an 86-game regular season. Honestly, I don’t think anyone would mind. And from what I saw Sunday in Sunrise – where the Panthers beat Rod The Bod’s Canes 6-3 – Florida is Stanley Cup-ready right now. It was preseason Game 1 and the Panthers dressed a lineup of Aleksander Barkov, both Tkachuks, Sam Bennett, Sam Reinhart, Gustav Forsling, Seth Jones and Jacob Markstrom. They’re all Olympians!

Just hand the Cup out right now. And Brindy’s right — they don’t need the preseason anymore.

Finally the ugly: The horse has been dead for awhile but we keep beating it. The CFL’s Ottawa RedBlacks are now 0-13 and were eliminated from playoff contention awhile back. I’m just enjoying what the ballers are saying because everybody’s got a different opinion; some say they’re not that far off while others say another rebuild and housecleaning is in order. Does anybody know what’s going on?

The only thing I can say with certainty is — I’m glad it’s not my team.
