Saturday Sports: Clinching Night For Lions & Elks

Edmonton 27 Hamilton 12
The Edmonton Elks clinched a home playoff game with a convincing road victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Tim Hortons Field. Edmonton improved to 12-4, securing a top-two finish in the West Division with two regular-season games remaining.
Quarterback Cody Fajardo completed 16 of 25 passes for 229 yards and added a rushing touchdown. The Elks broke the game open with 20 fourth-quarter points, including touchdowns by Zach Mathis, Fajardo and Justin Rankin Powell.
Hamilton managed only 12 points and fell to 5-12, officially ending its playoff hopes. Edmonton will host a playoff game at Commonwealth Stadium for the first time in 11 years.
**On Saturday the Calgary Stampeders can clinch a playoff berth with a win at Winnipeg. Zach Collaros returns from injury to lead the Blue Bombers. On Monday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders visit the Montreal Alouettes in the Thanksgiving Day Classic.

National Hockey League
Friday’s NHL schedule featured four games, highlighted by a hat trick in Carolina, a shootout in Columbus and a dramatic Seattle comeback:
Washington Capitals 3, New York Rangers 1
Boone Jenner scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period as Washington snapped New York’s four-game winning streak. Timothy Liljegren also scored, Tom Wilson added an empty-net goal and Logan Thompson stopped 22 shots. Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin left with a lower-body injury in the second period.
Columbus Blue Jackets 3, Pittsburgh Penguins 2 (SO)
Kent Johnson scored the decisive shootout goal, and Cam Talbot made 20 saves in his Columbus debut. Damon Severson recorded a goal and an assist, while Mathieu Olivier also scored for the Blue Jackets. Pittsburgh’s Sergei Murashov made 43 saves in a losing effort as the Penguins dropped their third straight game.
Anaheim Ducks 5, Winnipeg Jets 1
Anaheim ended Winnipeg’s three-game winning streak with a dominant road performance. Judd Caulfield, Tim Washe and Mikael Granlund each scored a goal and added an assist, while Lukas Dostal stopped 15 shots. Kyle Connor provided Winnipeg’s lone goal.
Seattle Kraken 6, Detroit Red Wings 3
Seattle rallied behind a four-goal second period to pull away from Detroit. Frederick Gaudreau scored twice, Ben Meyers contributed a goal and two assists, and Philipp Grubauer made 37 saves. Detroit’s William Wallinder and Michael Brandsegg-Nygård each scored their first NHL goals.
