A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …

#1 – It’s a B.G.W.! A Big Game Weekend! My focus is a lot of places, but a big part of it is the CFL. The Riders *need* that win Saturday against Edmonton to secure third-place in the West and that has people wondering why back-up QB Jack Coan is starting in place of Trevor Harris. Personally, I’d like to see that kid Brayden Schager – the one who shot out the lights in the preseason – who’s on the reserve list. He looks like the next Matt Dunigan. Regardless, I’ll be watching.

#2 – It’s a month into the WHL season and the Pats & Warriors are nose-to-nose in the East Conference standings (almost). The two meet tonite in the Brandt Center and it’s an E.S.B.G. for both (Early Season Big Game). There’s a Watch Party at PumpJacks in Regina if you’re interested.

#3 – Game 1 of the World Series goes tonight in Milwaukee with the Brewers home to the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s a massive clash between two teams who’ve never won an MLB title before. But I hadda search wayyyyy down on the newswire for coverage of the series, yet near the top were a bunch of stories about the WNBA Final and players not coming out of the locker room for the national anthem. Like, what are we doing here?

I’m either out of touch, or God put me on this earth to restore some sense to the sports media world.

And #4 –  It was a tough day Thursday with the passing of NHL icon Ron Duguay. His family, and partner Sarah Palin, are understandably crushed. He and I got to be great friends simply through his appearances on my show and we ended up talking a lot. Believe it or not, we’ve got a lot in common (I think seven or so divorces combined), and we leaned on each other a lot in some tough times. Put it this way: a guy like that has some haters.  And, his relationship with the Rangers was strained. Which sucks.

I never knew why a pair like that would take a liking to a farmkid from Milestone, SK but I stopped questioning it long ago. They’re just good people. In fact they invited me to Alaska for a visit and I’m ashamed to say I didn’t go. And now he’s gone.

There’s a lesson in there somewhere.
