ADAM BIGHILL SAYS TICATS CELEBRATED TOO EARLY

Popular Winnipeg Blue Bombers LB Adam Bighill was the marquee guest on Wednesday’s The Rod Pedersen Show and revealed an interesting tidbit related to 2019 Grey Cup Week in Calgary. Bighill’s Bombers mauled the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33-12 in the CFL championship game at Calgary’s McMahon Stadium, and Bighill said they got some extra motivation early in the week.

“We were practicing outside every single day, they were practicing inside every single day,” Bighill said from Winnipeg. “They started their Day 1 practice finishing the practice with victory formation, so their mindset was different from ours. I’ll definitely say that.

“We have the blue collar mindset and we’re not afraid to put in the work. We’re not afraid of the weather. We truly had a really strong mentally, and physically, tough team. As we went into that week, I kinda noticed those things and I thought, mentally, we were gonna have a big edge on ’em”.

The 6-time All Star and 2-time Grey Cup champion Bighill said the Grey Cup tour has continued all throughout Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba since their big win over Hamilton. However he said their attention has also turned to 2020, where the Bombers expect to repeat as Grey Cup champions, winning the big game at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium in November.

*OTHER NOTES FROM WEDNESDAY’S RP SHOW

  • It was Episode 139 and Rod and Dupes were joined in the bunker by CTV’s Don Hewitt for The Rollout for Flooring Superstore. They discussed the 2020 Riders’ schedule and how it’s favourable for Rider fans, with a large number of Friday and Saturday games. However they agreed that the prices for the 2020 Grey Cup are outrageous, and Rod said he won’t be buying. Don will. Rod also said he’s booked a family trip to Edmonton over the Christmas/New Years Holidays and couldn’t get over the outrageous prices for Oilers tickets. “Is everybody up there a millionaire?” Rod questioned.
  • The Sports Doctor Dave Petrishen from Winnipeg joined the bunker and trolled the crew on the Bombers’ Grey Cup win. He said Winnipeg wins all the big games in Mosaic Stadium including the first-ever game there, the first playoff game, the first West Final, the first Heritage Classic, and will win the first Grey Cup in the new facility. Hewitt got enraged by the Doc’s comments, while Rod said it doesn’t bother him at all.
  • Derek “Duke” Meyers joined the bunker in Hour 2 and discussed a wide variety of things including the SJHL neutral site game in his hometown of Midale between Estevan and Notre Dame. Duke said it was the highlight of the year for Midale, and a record night at the canteen.
  • 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk joined the show via video chat with a bushel of CFL news. He said there are rumours the Riders will hire either Ricky Ray or Jarious Jackson as their new QB coach and also said new Argos head coach Ryan Dinwiddie ruffled some feathers across the league for taking credit for Bo Levi Mitchell’s strong play. Dunk also said the Argos are getting heat for the way they handled the dismissing of Corey Chamblin in favour of Dinwiddie.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the best team in the NHL at Christmas: Bruins, Capitals, Blues or other? The majority of respondents said Washington.
