ALOUETTES BRINGING BACK CALVILLO AS TEAM AMBASSADOR
It is with great pride that the Montreal Alouettes organization announced on Friday that Anthony Calvillo is back in the nest in the position of team ambassador.
Calvillo arrived in Montreal in 1998, as he joined the Alouettes following stops in Las Vegas and Hamilton, which marked the beginning of a love story with Quebecers. The quarterback then went on to lead the Alouettes to eight Grey Cup games, including three that ended with parades in the streets of Montreal, all while rewriting the CFL’s record book.
“It is almost impossible to mention the name Alouettes without thinking of Anthony, as the two will be forever linked. So it was only natural for us to maintain our family ties with the team and league’s greatest quarterback of all-time,” declared Alouettes President Mario Cecchini. “On top of his on-field feats, this adoptive son of Quebec took roots here and we will mutually help ourselves extend then. There is no doubt that his presence will allow us to depeen our relationship with our fans.”
Calvillo will remain a member of the Université de Montréal Carabins’ coaching staff, on top of his new role with the Alouettes. He will also comment on whatever is happening with the Alouettes, and in the world of football, on the team’s different digital platforms.
All along his career, the Los Angeles, CA native never hesitated to give his time to different worthy causes that he holds close to his heart, many times far from the cameras. In his new role, Calvillo will support the organization’s efforts in the community, all while making himself available for the team’s fans and partners.
“I am very happy to once more be implicated with the Alouettes, and it will be a natural fit for me to represent the organization for which I will be associated with for all of my life. The Alouettes, the City of Montreal and the Province of Quebec will always hold a special place in my heart and I plan on using my new role to connect even more with our fans, as well as with people of the business community,” said the CFL’s most prolific passer.
Calvillo spent 20 seasons in the professional ranks, including the last 16 with the Alouettes. He holds numerous CFL passing records, including all-time passing yards with 79,816. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2017. Winner of three Grey Cups (2002, 2009, 2010), he saw the Alouettes retire his number 13 jersey in October of 2014. Calvillo was a member of the Alouettes coaching staff from 2015 to 2017. He joined the Université de Montréal Carabins coaching staff in 2019, helping the team reach the Vanier Cup in his first season with the team.
