FRIDAY RUNDOWN: MARTAVIS BRYANT AND MORE!

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we covered all the latest in the CFL and NFL on a Flame Tech Football Friday on Episode #411 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The point spread hasn’t changed for Super Bowl LV – Kansas City’s favoured by 3.5-points over Tampa Bay with an over/under of 57.5, 2) Where will Deshaun Watson end up?, 3) The search continues for the next Head Coach of the Edmonton Football Team, 4) Thursday NHL leftovers – the Leafs are still #1, 5) The WHL announces a Return To Play in Alberta beginning February 26, and 6) The RP Show will begin airing on AccessNow TV beginning February 6!
  • RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show to talk all things NFL and a little CFL. He figures the Houston Texans will deal Deshaun Watson to San Francisco while Rod feels he’ll be traded to Jacksonville. The buzz at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL is that Matt Stafford will end up with either the 49ers or Cowboys. Regarding the Super Bowl, Tori feels the Chiefs will walk all over the Buccaneers and said home field doesn’t mean much. Gurley said one change he’d like to see from the CFL when it comes back is rookie Americans only having to sign 1-year deals rather than 2-year contracts.
  • We combined the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question with the FaceOff for Ultimate Fan Zone and The Mad Greek. The question was if the Roughriders will re-sign Charleston Hughes? John Frenzy feels they will while RP predicts they won’t. The poll results at press time were 50/50.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by Green Bay Packers WR Reggie Begelton. The former Calgary Stampeder discussed his first year with the Packers, appearing in a Week 4 win over Atlanta. The Beaumont, TX product said working his way up the Packers depth chart is very similar to his time in Calgary where he posted a breakout season in 2019 with 1,444 yards. He credits the guidance of Stampeders receiver Kamar Jorden for his development. This week Begelton signed a Futures Contract with Green Bay. He answered several questions from viewers including advice for young receivers at the university/junior level on how to take the next step.
  • Controversial receiver Martavis Bryant joined the show from Los Angeles. The Clemson product spent four years in the NFL with Pittsburgh and Oakland amassing over 2,000 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns however he’s been out of the league since 2018 dealing with a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Rod couldn’t get over his striking resemblance to former Rider 1,000-yard receiver Taj Smith! Bryant said he’s excited to join the Argos and has a few good friends on the team. He shrugged off any pressure he may face from expectations from Argos fans, saying he just wants to go out and have fun. Martavis admitted football stopped being fun when he got into trouble off the field, and is eager to resurrect his career in the CFL. He also joked that he’s familiar with CFL rules, including the waggle, and quipped “I don’t know why you’d want to give ME a running start!”
