CHRIS JONES JOINS THE RP SHOW

Monday’s 154th edition of The Rod Pedersen Show came in hot! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores where they recapped a busy sports weekend of NHL, NFL, WHL, curling and more. Rod went deep into the Kassian-Tkachuk tussle in Saturday’s Battle of Alberta, and Rod said Kassian sent a message for future games between the two heated rivals. Dupes talked about broadcasting a pair of weekend Blades games, and how he was able to “go dark” Saturday night and watch the tape of his beloved Tennessee Titans upsetting Baltimore in the wee hours Sunday morning.
  • Cleveland Browns Sr. Defensive Assistant Chris Jones joined the show from St. Petersburg, FL where he talked ball and updated his life. Jones discussed the 2019 season for his 6-10 Browns, compared Duron Carter and Odell Beckham Jr., his role in his first season in Cleveland and much more. Like Scott Milanovich, Coach Jones agreed that he “misses” the CFL and how much he enjoyed the personnel side in Canada as much as his teams’ on-field performances. He revealed that he brought his defensive knowledge to the Browns, and how that was incorporated into the team’s prep work each week. He doesn’t have as much personnel influence in the NFL as he enjoyed in Canada.
  • Jones also said he’s particularly proud of how far Willie Jefferson has come since he brought him into the CFL and hopes Willie gets an opportunity with the Miami Dolphins. He also talked about Derrick Moncrief’s chances of making the Vegas Raiders, and how much he promotes the CFL in the U.S.
  • Stampeders greats Nik Lewis and Mark McLoughlin were in the bunker to talk about their time in Calgary and the franchise’s various ups and downs over the past three decades. McLoughlin is in a senior role in government in Saskatchewan and talked about his family’s transition to Regina. It was a fascinating chat.
  • We were requested not to ask about Jones’ situation for 2020 but 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk reported last week there’s a good chance Jones will be retained by the Browns for the upcoming season. It should be noted Jones was wearing a Browns shirt in the interview.
  • You can watch the full interview on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dguh927XOHA
  • Another Stamps great, WR Romby Bryant, joined the show from Frisco, TX and discussed his favourite moments with Calgary and the heated rivalry with Saskatchewan. The panel all agreed that those playoff games in the 2000’s created the rivalry the Riders and Stamps enjoy today.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How many game suspension should Zack Kassian get for Saturday’s melee on Hockey Night in Canada? Over 60% of respondents said “zero”.
  • Be sure to tune into Tuesday’s hockey show as we’ll be joined by NHL broadcasters Darren Dreger and Peter Loubardias! See you at 10 am CT on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

Man that Zack Kassian, he plays with his down, then he cant take hit. Zack Kassian needs a good 1 year suspension for his dirty uncalled actions detrimental to the NHL rules. Zack Kassian is a big cry baby.

Matthew Tkachuk deserves a suspension for a dirty hit targeting Kassian’s head. And definitely should be ridiculed throughout the league for being a turtle. The guy has no respect for the game. Anybody who skates around the ice trying to pull that crap, then won’t fight when it’s time to answer the call clearly isn’t a man!! Believe me, even his teammates are ashamed of his actions!

Mattie’s hitting all NHL legal, he’s a big time big league hitter. Kassian wants to play with his head down he’s gonna pay the price like anyone else who play with their head down. Kassian’s own team captain Connor McDavid yelling keep your damn head up and watch where your going you goof, this ain’t no minor hockey with no hitting rules you dummy.

No problem with hitting in the game. Zach hasn’t a problem with it either. But Tkachuk has to understand that the some of the hits he is throwing are going to piss opponents off. And that means sometimes you have to drop your gloves when they come after you cause if you don’t, you’re going to get labeled by NHL players, officials, coaches and fans as a coward. It’s disgraceful!! He has no integrity laying around on the ice in the fetal position covering his face. Just saying – cause that’s the truth and that’s the way it is.

Now that NHL has handed out its measly 2 game suspension to the cowardly sucker punching Zack Kassian, the Edmonton Oilers also need to do likewise and suspend him further for costing the team crucial league standings points which could costly effect its pursuit of a playoff berth this season. No place in hockey for me only Zack, very selfish, you cost us a game you loser.
