It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for another fun edition of the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

First the good: It’s as close to a playoff game as you’re gonna get. As part of an eight-game NHL schedule tonight, the Edmonton Oilers visit the Vegas Golden Knights.

What’s big about it? The Oilers need a win to tie the NHL record for longest winning streak at 17 games. And the Golden Knights just happen to be the reigning Stanley Cup champions and the team which ended the Oilers’ season last year!

My gut feeling? The streak ends tonight.

Next the great: I had a panicked feeling and a quiver in my gut when news came down Monday that NHL icon Lanny McDonald suffered a “cardiac event” in the airport on his way home from the NHL All Star Game in Toronto.

But if you hadn’t heard, the 70-year old was rescued by a pair of off-duty nurses and he lived to tell the tale.

I hadn’t really met Lanny or spent much time with him till all that time in Calgary the last two years and we got real close fast!

This world is not ready to say good-bye to Lanny McDonald. If anything, I feel like this is a God-shot telling Lanny to slow down his hectic pace.

And finally the ugly: Without question, it’s this Hockey Canada mess and the London issue. We’ll defer to the London Police that they know what they’re doing but in recent days the five players in question have been charged and the police have issued a public apology to the victim.

That’s big of them but why are they apologizing in the first place? They say it’s because it’s taken six years to get to this point but I have to wonder if it’s because they’ve bent to public pressure.

Meanwhile the players are on leave from their NHL teams, suspended indefinitely by Hockey Canada, and their reputations will never be the same again, no matter how this turns out.

Ugly indeed.
