A coupla three or more thoughts headed into the weekend …

#1 – Sometimes you just gotta get on board. The NFL hype is inescapable so unless you’re willing to turn your phone, TV & radio off, you have to go with the flow.

Although I do find some of the commentary to be ridiculous – like, “Who’s the best 2-0 NFL team?” There were eight of them coming out of Week 2 but the correct answer is the Dallas Cowboys of course. (At least they were until we learned the NFL’s top DB Trevon Diggs is done for the year with a torn ACL).

Actually it’s a trick question because determining who’s the best team in S-E-P-T-E-M-B-E-R is useless.

And, oddly enough, I turned on the radio yesterday afternoon and instead of stroking the 2-0 Dolphins, the hosts were bashing Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

What a world.

#2 – I’m tickled pink to be spending the weekend at Florida Panthers training camp in the IceDen in Coral Springs, FL. The road back to the Stanley Cup begins here and it’s fun to follow a team from the start of the road to the end. Can you believe it’s my third season in the Panthers press box?

Time flies.

#3 – There was a wonderful WHL East Conference preview in the Leader Post this week so bravo to those who put it together. Am I correct in gathering that the Moose Jaw Warriors and Saskatoon Blades are the teams to beat in the East?

They stopped short of predictions but it’s safe to say the Pats are at or near the bottom.

I recall Septembers pulling up to the Brandt Centre as Voice of the Pats knowing you didn’t even have a chance.

That’s not a good feeling.

And #4 – The Riders play tonight, at Ottawa. Sask is favoured by 2-points a Bet Regal and I’ll take them to cover it.

But with the Plaza of Honour induction looming next month, and the CFL Hall of Fame doing their thing last week, I keep wondering why former Rider GM Roy Shivers isn’t in the Plaza.

I don’t even like the guy, but think he should be in.

But like I say, these things aren’t about merit anymore.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

There’s psychology involved in that. You most likely see yourself as the benevolent Plantation owner so it’s at best latent racism at worst you’re acting out some kind of sick power play on them. Similar to Edwin Epps and his “love” for Pats – I don’t doubt it’s a really “love” on your end….it just comes with certain conditions. It’s like saying some of your best friends are black. True love and friendship is colorblind – calling it out puts you in some kind of liberal status of – “hey see I’m a nice guy.” – it’s oppression just in… Read more »

Roy Shivers showed up and did his job and if you had any singular idea of what that man walked into – 3 guys turned it down before they went with Roy. Imagine having to roll into Regina and actually have to deal with Tom Sheppard and pretend to like him? That lasted only so long when Tom and the idiot crew realized Roy is not intersted in hanging out with them at the Wascana Country Club. Bill Peters – of course he used poor taste/decorum and it’s from many years ago which he has since worked on. Akim Aliu… Read more »

I watch a lot of football. I couldn’t figure out why for some reason I’m the guy that thinks the NFL absolutely sucks. – I watch it because it’s like mid 90s NHL – it’s what we do. Then I wastched the 30 for 30 on the Baltimore Ravens. Oh that’s why it sucks. – they legislated the ’85 Bears, early ’90s Cowboys, and 2000 Ravens out of the NFL – they also don’t want the Al Davis Raiders anywhere near the Lombardi Trophy. It’s a sanitized woke league that if anyone actually knows the game of Football then this… Read more »

As always Obama, at no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

#4; Last point about Roy Shivers as I’m very passionate about this. 2023 you know who gets celebrated for being unapoligetically brash and confidant? Coach Prime. 2006 if Roy Shivers shows up to a board meeting with a toothpick and cornrows and basically has the same roster make up – well in Regina, SK it was the Jason Aldean, “Try That In A Small Town” deal. Patrick Roy can’t get an NHL Coaching job. Dale Hunter isn’t in the Hall of Fame. Phil and Roy along with Brendan Taman along with Eric Tillman are not in there. The old saying… Read more »
