FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN

IMG_4357

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled all the hot topics on Episode #441 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) CFL/XFL talk (Rod asks the CFL diehards if they bought spots on the Grey Cup Fan Base?), 2) Thursday NHL leftovers (The Flames are playing inspired), 3) We’re into the Brier Championship Round, 4) It’s Opening Night in the WHL East Division and RP and Dupes have the call of Raiders/Pats on AccessNow!, 5) NFL Notes – Cam Newtown signs a 1-year deal in New England, and 6) The RP Show NHL Top 5 are Tampa, Carolina, Vegas, NY Islanders, Florida and the Bottom 5 are Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa, New Jersey and Anaheim.
  • Hall of Fame Roughriders broadcaster John Frenzy joined the bunker and said he’s heard the same things as Rod; the CFL wants to tap into The Rock’s marketing machine but not change anything with how the CFL operates. Frenzy said they don’t plan for a merger, but he doesn’t believe it. John also said he’s been told the drop-dead date for the announcement of a 2021 CFL season is May 1.
  • Seattle sportstalk host Ian Furness of 910 KJR joined the show from the Emerald City and spoke of being great friends with Rod going back to his days as Voice of the Seattle Thunderbirds and Tri-City Americans. Regarding Russell Wilson, Ian said something’s soured between the quarterback and the team but doesn’t expect he’ll be traded. He does, however, expect the Houston Texans to be forced to deal QB Deshaun Watson. Regarding the NHL expansion Seattle Kraken, Furness reported hype is off the charts to begin play in the fall.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will Deshaun Watson be the Houston Texans’ quarterback in 2021? At press time, 90% of respondents said no.
  • In Hour 2 we re-upped the Quick Six and then were joined by Toronto Argonauts rookie head coach Ryan Dinwiddie. Ryan appeared from his home in Toronto and said he understands skepticism over his “readiness” for the job but said he’s eager to get on the field and earn his stripes! He talked about the wealth of talent the club has signed and said he’s happy that the Argos’ defense is flying under the radar. Dinwiddie talked about assembling his coaching staff and explained that several are holdovers from the Jones regime. He said they’re grinders, and that includes Argos Assistant GM John Murphy who played a big role in Dinwiddie landing in Toronto.

An astute observed opinion. When Dwayne Johnson and his partners come in to take over the CFL with a merger to the XFL, you can bet the NFL is keenly watching as to how it plays out. With success the NFL is ready willing and able to take on a global development football system secondary to their wotld wide product. That translates to a win win situation for both the CFL XFL.
