Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we had a wild one on Episode #460 of The RP Show – Canada’s DayTime Sports Talk Show! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Hall of Fame Roughriders broadcaster John “Frenzy” Lynch kicked it off with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Show topics: 1) CFL in 2021 – the hosts figure it’s time for the CFL to announce plans to play this season, without fans, 2) The NHL Top 5 are – Carolina, NY Islanders, Colorado, Tampa Bay & Toronto while the Bottom 5 are – Columbus, Calgary, Detroit, Ottawa & Buffalo based on recent trends, 3) Thursday NHL leftovers – 9 of the Oilers’ 25 wins are against Ottawa, 4) Frozen Four semifinals saw Massachusetts and St. Cloud State advance, 5) Justin Rose leads after Day 1 at The Masters, and 6) NFL Notes including the Aaron Rodgers saga in Green Bay.
  • RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley was scheduled to appear to talk all things NFL but was excused due to the mass shooting/suicide involving his close friend Phillip Adams in South Carolina. The situation cast a considerable pall on the show and the hosts scrambled to right the ship.
  • During Hour 1 the CJHL officially confirmed the BCHL has declared its intention to leave the Canadian Junior umbrella effective last month. It’s a story Rod broke weeks ago.
  • In Hour 2’s Second Half Kickoff we were joined by Jamie Lees from Kraft Hockeyville Lumsden to promote Lumsden, SK’s bid to be named Kraft Hockeyville 2021 and be awarded the $250,000 cash prize. Voting is open now at www.krafthockeyville.ca.
  • Edmonton Football Team colour commentator Dave Campbell joined the show and agreed with Rod’s assertion that it’s time for an announcement on the 2021 CFL season. Campbell said there’s plenty of money within the CFL to pull off a bubble and said it’s prudent that the CFL play this year. He also recapped his appearance on the XFL Markcast where he disclosed the inner-workings of CFL business and what a merger may look like.
  • Moose Dupont joined the show for the final two segments and he and Rod Faced Off on Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello’s team policy of no facial hair or long hair for players. Both panelists agreed that each club is free to institute their own rules and have no problems with Lou’s long-standing policy.
  • The remainder of the show was dedicated to Viewer Takeover and it included comments with viewers from across the continent about the future of the CFL, the current status of the CFL, and junior hockey musings.

The only possible way for the CFL to exist is MLSE takes over all 9 franchises in their entirety and runs each team out of Toronto on a even transparent budget, one size fits all. No interference, no local board of directors or otherwise, straight out of Toronto business. Then just watch it take off for the better as it sustains itself.
