Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled ALL the latest news on Episode #499 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked off the show with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Jets forward Mark Scheifele is suspended 4 games and spoke with the media on Friday morning, 2) Carolina topped Tampa 3-2 in OT thanks to a disputed call, 3) Boston beat the NY Islanders 2-1 in OT and RP pointed out 1 in 3 NHL playoff games this year have gone to overtime, 4) Tonight it’s Canadiens/Jets and Avalanche/Golden Knights, 5) The Astros face the Blue Jays in Buffalo Friday evening, and 6) USFL news, memories and CFL Return To Play talk.
  • Hall of Fame Roughriders broadcaster John “Frenzy” Lynch joined the bunker for the next several segments and in Block 2 we were joined by Edmonton Elks President Chris Presson. He detailed the franchise’s new name unveiling on Tuesday and said the process was both intensive and fun. He reiterated the CFL’s plans to kickoff on August 5 and he said their optimism stems from Canada’s vaccination process and dropping Covid case counts. Presson also discussed his previous stints with the NBA G-League, Indoor Football League and Central Hockey League, and said he’s kept close tabs on how those leagues have handled the pandemic.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How would you rate the officiating so far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs – Good, Okay or Poor? At press time, “Okay” was leading.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff, Rod asked Frenzy for his recollections of the USFL from 1983-85 but John confused the era with the CFL’s US Expansion in the early 1990’s. He wouldn’t give in, saying his memory is correct, and Rod used Lynch’s cane to try and pull him off set! Viewers said it was the best 5-minute segment in sports talk history while RP felt it took years off his life.
  • Producer/writer Chris Bickford joined the show from Southern Ontario to explain his theatre/feature film project featuring the CFL. Chris said the plot follows a Stand By Me type storyline, and focuses on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He said his goal is to invigorate young CFL fans, and is looking for investors to get them across the finish line. Viewers were very eager to hear more about Bickford’s project.
  • Dupes rejoined the show for the final two segments and the hosts kibitzed with viewers about the potential for a 2021 CFL season.
  • Friday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook/YouTube pages, you can catch the replay on Game+ TV, listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab at the top of this page or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

This just in,
No 2021 season, not financially feasible for a couple teams to proceed with limited fans or no fans in the stands. Sorry.

Saturday, June 5th, 2021.

A “pure hockey” pleasure to watch IIHF Tournament game early this morning as Canada faced off at 5:00 am Saskatchewan time against a equally skilled USA team with Canada coming out with the victory. A crisp fast game on the big Ice sheet. Canada did themselves proud as they now go for the gold medals, win or lose great job to everyone involved
