FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN

Fridays are reserved for football on The RP Show and we discussed it a lot – plus a lot of junior hockey news – on Episode #345 of Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • With Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Frenzy on the 1-week Injured List, RP and Dupes got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Eagles downed the Giants 22-21 on Thursday Night Football, 2) Big Week 7 NFL games including Dallas at Washington and Pittsburgh at Tennessee, 3) WHL players have been allowed to play for SJHL teams until December 20, 4) Game 3 of the World Series goes Friday night with L.A. and Tampa tied 1-1, 5) Who will be the next BC Lions GM?, 6) NHL owners are bracing for a worst-case scenario of a $1.8B loss in 2021.
  • RP Show NFL insider Tori Gurley joined the show for Tori’s Tips for Wheaton Kia. The former Browns and Packers WR gave his fantasy tips for Week 7 and recapped the Thursday Nighter. Regarding Giants QB Daniel Jones tripping at the 20-year line after a long run, Tori quipped “I’d have faked a hamstring pull because he’ll be living that one down for years!” Gurley took several questions from viewers and examined if it’s a good idea for the Seahawks to sign Antonio Brown.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should WHL players be allowed to play on Junior A teams? The majority of Facebook respondents said yes while Twitter voters said no.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and Rod and Dupes opened it up with a lively back-and-forth coffee discussion with viewers about CFL problems, the next GM of the Lions (RP predicted it would be Geroy Simon last week) and the Junior A controversy. They also quizzed viewers if they’d be willing to pay premium prices for tickets if seating capacity is capped in 2021 and the majority said no.
  • Famed Calgary sportscaster Mike Lownsbrough joined the show for a sports update from Cowtown. He said he’s spoken with Stamps coach Dave Dickenson and they’re “incredibly frustrated” with the current status of the league (cancelled season and uncertainty around 2021). He said Flames fans are optimistic with the signing of goalie Jacob Markstrom in free agency as it’s filled a hole that’s plagued the team since Mikka Kiprusoff retired. Regarding premium pricing, Lownsbrough figures the Flames could get away with it but they’re already pricy as it is. “How much higher can they go?” Lownsbrough wondered.
  • Hobo Donuts founder Jimmy Schimmel joined the bunker to discuss the big news that the wildly successful donut company is opening its first store in Downtown Regina. To date, the famed donut’s brand has been built primarily through Instagram pop-ups.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. Thursday’s vote was won by Sportsnet Winnipeg’s Sean Reynolds.
