Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled the hottest CFL & NFL topics on Episode #559 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) CFL Week 4 games preview and odds, 2) There are 4 NFL games Friday night!, 3) Two more Edmonton Elks are Covid positive bringing the total to 14 (is the Elks’ and CFL season in jeopardy?), 4) Deion Sanders calls the NFC East “garbage”, 5) The top percentages for teams winning the Super Bowl are: Kansas City (19%), Tampa Bay (15%), Buffalo (9%) and Green Bay, Baltimore, San Francisco (6%), and 6) Packers QB Aaron Rodgers says he won’t judge teammates for not getting vaccinated and his likely last season in Green Bay is drawing comparisons to Michael Jordan in The Last Dance.
  • CEBL Commissioner and CFL great Mike Morreale joined the show from his Southern Ontario home for a great sports chat. He detailed the just-completed CEBL season, Edmonton’s repeat as champs and Stingers star Xavier Moon 3-peating as league MVP. Morreale also discussed how the league was able to pull off the season without any Covid issues and said we aren’t out of the woods for the 2022 CEBL campaign. Mike also discussed his Grey Cup wins with Toronto (1996) and Hamilton (1999) and remembered with Rod the Ticats’ 62-7 speed-bagging of Saskatchewan in 1999 with Steve Sarkisian as the Riders QB. That was Rod’s first season in the Rider Radio booth and was the worst loss the team absorbed in his 20 seasons.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the Super Bowl favourite – Kansas City, Green Bay, Tampa Bay or Buffalo? At press time the Chiefs were leading.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for CORR Grain we were joined by Roughriders Hall of Famer Chris Getzlaf. The Ticats/Riders/Eskimos alum stayed for 40 minutes and said it’s an honour to have his career recognized by the Plaza of Honour in 2021. The Regina product discussed highlights of his CIS & CFL career, his breakout game in 2009 in Calgary, and dabbled in some NHL talk, including his brother Ryan with the Anaheim Ducks. Chris revealed that there was a real chance of Ryan ending his career elsewhere but in the end, was happy to sign what might be his final contract with Anaheim this summer. Chris also admitted he’s in several NFL fantasy leagues and follows the NFL extremely closely. His favourite team is the Saints and feels they’ll surprise in the post-Brees era.
  • The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and Moose rejoined the show virtually from the lake. The crew debated with viewers this week’s CFL games and looked ahead to the NFL season.
