FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: COWBOYS VOICE BRAD SHAM!
Fridays are reserved for the gridiron on The RP Show and we checked off another Bucket List interview on Episode #383 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:
- Rod and Dupes opened with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Will the NHL really relocate its Canadian teams to the U.S. due to Covid controls?, 2) Thursday Night Football saw a thriller as the Chargers downed the Raiders 30-27 in OT, 3) Mike Reilly has a new deal, 4) Will the CFL play in 2021?, 5) Week 15 in the NFL features a Saturday doubleheader with the Bills at Broncos followed by the Panthers at Packers, and 6) Sunday’s big games for our crew include the Cowboys home to the 49ers, the Titans hosting the Lions and the Game of the Week pits the Chiefs against the Saints.
- News broke during Hour 1 that the Roughriders have released veteran Canadian defensive tackle Zack Evans. It set alarm bells off not only in the Rider Nation, but across the CFL. Rod said the move was all about money and Zack’s big contract. CFL players chimed in on the move including Willie Jefferson and Vernon Adams Jr., who said it’s a sign of things to come. Rod guessed that the Riders may have approached Evans about restructuring his deal, but he apparently wasn’t interested. Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch called the move “stupid” and that he “just can’t accept it.”
- RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show and the former Argonauts WR Tori Gurley explained the Evans release, saying pro football teams are all about “finding the cheapest player”. He pointed to the success of the New England Patriots who laid out the blueprint for it. Regarding Zack Evans’ release, Tori said “I have no doubt Zack will land on his feet. He has great film and any team would love to have him on their defensive line.” This being the Year Of The Missed Kick in the NFL, Rod asked Tori why the NFL isn’t looking at CFL kickers like Brett Lauther? The former Packer and Brown said he doesn’t understand it, and figures Justin Medlock could win a lot of games for an NFL team. He feels CFL kickers should get an opportunity. Gurley fielded questions from viewers regarding Chris Jones’ role with the Browns, Baker Mayfield’s sterling performances without OBJ and much more. He also offered his weekly Tori’s Tips NFL Week 15 Fantasy advice for Wheaton Kia and Fanduel.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should Canadian NHL teams be forced to play out of the US? Over 70% of respondents said no.
- Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and after re-upping the Quick Six, we were joined by Dallas Cowboys play-by-play voice Brad Sham. Sham’s been with the Cowboys since 1976 and told many stories of the Tex Shramm and Jerry Jones eras. He described the 2020 Cowboys season as “not very good” and answered Frenzy’s questions about QB Dak Prescott’s future and the sub-par play of RB Zeke Elliott. Rod asked Sham how survived as the Voice of the Cowboys for so long while also hosting talk shows in football-mad Dallas. Brad answered that he doesn’t do much talk radio anymore, but that he’s never been told what to say – or what not to say – during his time. Rod said that wasn’t that case for him. Sham also talked about this Sunday’s record-setting game for Cowboys Canadian long-snapper JP Ladouceur, and also explained what it’s like working for Jerry Jones? Brad said he doesn’t see Jerry much due to Covid controls but said the Cowboys Owner/GM is a “people person” and is struggling in the pandemic by not being allowed to converse with fans.
- RP and Frenzy Faced Off for Ultimate Fan Zone and The Mad Greek over whether or not Canadian NHL teams will be able to play in Canada this year. Rod figures the government won’t budge while Lynch figures they’ll give in.
