FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: GURLEY, STEGALL & MORE!
Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled all the latest NFL & CFL topics on Episode #534 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Cleveland Indians officially announced they’re changing their name to the “Cleveland Guardians”, 2) The Buccaneers get their Super Bowl rings and Tom Brady rubs it in the face of the teams who passed him up, 3) CFL Notes: A lot of veterans are missing time due to soreness, 4) Friday is Round 1 of the NHL Entry Draft, 5) The Blue Jays are at the Mets Friday night, and 6) Are you watching the Olympic opening ceremonies?.
- RP Show NFL Insider and Packers, Browns & CFL alum Tori Gurley joined the show to breakdown the latest. As a friend and former teammate of Aaron Rodgers, Tori predicted Rodgers won’t be on Green Bay’s roster for Week 1. He said he feels sorry for the organization, especially since WR Devante Adams wants out now too. The other hot topic in the NFL is vaccination rates among teams and that the league will forfeit games for teams who have Covid outbreaks. Tori agrees with the policy and admitted he’s fully-vaccinated. He wonders why any NFL player wouldn’t be? The guys also talked about the potential for injuries in the early going for CFL and NFL teams.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How do we feel about the name Cleveland Guardians? At press time around 60% of respondents gave it the thumbs down.
- In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for the Four Seasons Sports Palace we went around CFL training camps and noted the absence of veteran stars like Michael Reilly, Matt Nichols, Andrew Harris and Bo Levi Mitchell due to “soreness”. Rod said it’s to be expected, and not a major concern. We’re two weeks into camp with two weeks to go until Week 1!
- CFL On TSN analyst and Hall of Famer Milt Stegall joined the show from Atlanta for a wide-ranging CFL visit. He’s got the Ticats picked as his Grey Cup favourite and figures Jeremiah Masoli will be their opening day starting QB. We examined the Riders’ issues on the offensive line and Milt said Saskatchewan doesn’t stand a chance if QB Cody Fajardo gets hurt. A viewer asked who’s the best-looking CFL On TSN panelist and Milt said he’s #1, and it’s a dogfight behind him for #2! Regarding Rod Smith’s move to the play-by-play role, Stegall said it’s a position Rod’s wanted for a long time. Milt answered a ton of viewer questions and said he can’t wait for the league to get going.
- The final two segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and we had a deep CFL chat including the revelation that the Riders approached John Hufnagel in 2015 to take over the Green & White.
