FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: GUS FREROTTE!

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron on The RP Show and we were joined by our usual gang plus an NFL Pro Bowler on Episode #359 of Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • Rod and Dupes kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The CFL and its teams announced their schedule of events for Grey Cup United week. Will there will be an update on the 2021 season by Commissioner Randy Ambrosie on Monday?, 2) Rod fielded tons of questions from Americans Thursday regarding next season. Why Thursday?, 3) The Weeknd will perform halftime at Super Bowl in Tampa, 4) Dupes’ Titans got trounced 34-17 by the Colts on Thursday Night Football, 5) The MJHL shuts down till January 1, and 6) The NHL plans to play in 2020 and will follow the NFL model, according to RP’s sources.
  • 15-year NFL’er Gus Frerotte (Redskins, Lions, Broncos, Bengals, Vikings, Dolphins and Rams) joined the show from Pittsburgh to discuss his career and how the NFL has handled the pandemic. He applauds the league for taking all the necessary safety measures and returning to play. The former Pro Bowler (1997) answered several questions from John Frenzy regarding the Steelers and Canadian WR Chase Claypool. Frerotte then discussed his popular podcast Huddle Up With Gus where he goes deeper into to the game than normal sports talkshows do. He also explained his efforts to “give back” to the game by introducing an amateur coaching certification program, coaching, and being involved in brain health studies. Frerotte also discussed his many relatives who live in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw. That blew Rod and Frenzy’s minds!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should it be mandatory for the Grey Cup halftime act to be Canadian? At press time, a slim margin of voters voted in favour of “no”. RP said it’s been a passion movement for him going back decades, and he adamantly voted “yes”. It’s always a hot button issue involving sports and pop culture. RP said that as a former country music DJ, he knows the struggles Canadian artists face.
  • Hour 2 was simulcast on Game+ TV and Facebook Live and we were joined by RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley. He offered his weekly Tori’s Tip’s fantasy advice for Wheaton Kia, and answered a plethora of questions on Cowboys QBs, Brady’s Buccaneers, and much, much more.
  • A heated topic on the show was the potential of revenue-sharing in the CFL. RP asked how that’s possible in the current climate since there’s no revenue at all, and that it’s actually been going on in the CFL for years. Fans of several CFL teams watching from Calgary, Toronto and Edmonton chimed in with their thoughts and it was a lively back-and-forth that spanned several segments.
  • The guys promoted Saturday’s CFL SIM Division Finals which will be broadcast in a doubleheader on the RP Show Facebook page Saturday at 6:00 pm ET (5:00 pm Sask time). Ottawa visits Calgary first, followed by Saskatchewan at Edmonton.
