FLAME TECH FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: WALLY, PLUMMER, CAMPBELL & MORE!

IMG_6812

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled the latest on Episode #514 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show – on Friday! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup for EECOL Electric covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Montreal eliminates Vegas in Game 6 (Rod feels the TSN Turning Point was Marc-Andre Fleury’s Game 3 gaffe), 2) The Islanders visit the Lightning Friday night in Game 7, 3) The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will only allow fully-vaccinated fans to their games this season, 4) The Riders and Bombers will meet in a controlled scrimmage on July 24 in Regina, 5) In the CEBL opener Niagara spanked Ottawa 103-78, and 6) The Blue Jays have won five in a row.
  • CFL icon Wally Buono joined the show from Vancouver to talk about these things and more. He agreed with Rod’s take that people are free to make their own choices about vaccinations but the Blue Bombers are also free to make theirs about which fans attend games. The Lions could be the only team not to have a controlled practice against another squad and Wally said there’s nothing you can do about it. He feels BC won’t be hindered, in fact they may benefit from more practice time and no travel. However with no preseason games in 2021, he feels the teams with the veteran coaching staffs will have an edge. The Hall of Famer also said he’s intrigued by the CFL/XFL merger idea, professed his love for 2011 Lion legend Arland Bruce III and said he grew up a fan of the Maple Leafs and Frank Mahovlich even though Wally was raised in Montreal!
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win Game 7 – Islanders or Lightning? At press time around 70% of respondents said New York.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half kickoff for the Four Season Sports Palace we kicked around all the CFL and Stanley Cup Playoff topics. We were then joined by 10-year NFL veteran QB-turned-actor Jake Plummer and film producer Chris Bickford. Plummer will appear in Bickford’s forthcoming CFL film “KICK” and discussed his NFL career and move into acting. He also expressed his admiration for the CFL and friendship with CFL great Travis Moore.
  • Next up was BC Lions head coach Rick Campbell to preview the season. He admitted that this is a hectic time but everyone’s excited to be playing football! Rick detailed his coaching staff, new personnel changes and stated that in fact this coaching staff has been together for two years even though they didn’t play in 2020. The self-professed “CFL Lifer” said this is his first coaching stint in BC and absolutely loves it, particularly after growing up in nearby Washington. It was a great visit!
  • RP and Moose Faced Off on who will be the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2021? Rod went with Cody Fajardo while Dupes chose Edmonton QB Trevor Harris. The Face Off is presented by UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant.

The Blue Bomber’s decision to limit game attendance to fully vaccinated fans is one I wish the Roughriders would copy. I am not going to attend Rider games unless everybody is vaccinated. Who wants to rub armpits with idiots who are not vaccinated?

I am fully vaccinated.

Having stated that let ’em all come. If it means they actually die then that should ease up the waiting list for tickets.

So …. so the Saskatchewan Roughriders proposed pre shindig exhibition game they planned has been kicked to the curbside. It did not pass CFL head office approval process. Its not part of the CFL’s health and safety plan for 2021 and the medical committee was not able to grant the go-ahead. Somebody head should roll for not doing their homework. In typical Saskatchewan fashion they jumped the gun, again. Winnipeg highly disappointed at a free trip and accomodations courtesy of the Rougjridets canceled and the chance to kick around the lowly Riders on their home turf once again 2021 as… Read more »
