FOOTBALL FRIDAY RECAP: FORDE’S DRAFT PREVIEW & JOHN FRENZY!

It was a whole lotta football talk, and a little golf, on Friday’s Episode #215 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The current mental tug-of-war with the pandemic: “Will they play or won’t they?” and “Are they opening the economy or not?”, 2) It’s Ricky Ray Night on TSN with a doubleheader featuring the 2012 & 2017 Grey Cups (“What’s this, pick on my Stampeders Night?” Rod joked), 3) Arash Madani Hate from viewers who feel he’s anti-CFL, 4) NFL Draft hype, 5) Which was the best Roughriders Grey Cup victory?, and 6) CFL Draft tidbits. Were prospects robbed by the cancellation of the Combine?
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which was the Riders best Grey Cup victory? – 1966, 1989, 2007 or 2013? 2013 is leading, and Rod, Dupes and John Frenzy all voted for it. Rod said, however, that he can make a case why each one of them could be considered the best.
  • Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch joined the show via phone from his palatial south Regina estate. As usual, it was a treat as “Frenzy” answered viewers’ questions about former Riders Joe “747” Adams and Joey Walters. He feels the CFL will play an 18-game schedule in 2020 and made these predictions: WEST: Sask, Winnipeg, Edmonton, BC, Calgary and EAST: Hamilton, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto. He also said he’s working on a book of his memoirs entitled John Lynch Tells It Like It Is, and said he’s already on page 33.
  • CFL on TSN Draft guru Duane Forde joined the show from his home in Toronto and offered a wealth of info leading up to the CFL Draft on April 30. Rod asked how Fordey consistently nails the first round picks and he admitted it’s because he gets inside info from the teams, rather than luck or his own scouting prowess. He’s not sold on East Carolina LB Jordan Williams as the #1 prospect (doesn’t feel he’s ready), and also said no one in the media has put in as much legwork as he has over the past several years examining the prospects. He also feels the CFL Draft is the most-complicated of all pro sports and explained why.
  • Sports talk host Brian Snow “The Snowman” from Terre Haute, Indiana joined the show via video chat. He said he discovered the RP Show on Facebook and became hooked from the first time he saw it. They discussed the most famous sports figures from Terre Haute (Larry Bird and Tommy John) and discussed what life’s like in his area during the pandemic.
  • For a good chunk of Hour 2, Rod and Dupes took questions from the viewers and Rod went deep into the storybook on tales from the broadcast booth during Grey Cup runs (both good and bad) from his 20 years in the Roughriders broadcast booth.
  • Matt Heatherington from the Drive The Green Golf podcast joined the show from Moose Jaw to discuss the outlook for golf in Saskatchewan this spring and summer, and how golf is set up well for social distancing. He also discussed the podcast’s Twitter bracket to determine the top Sask golf course. The finalists are Waskesiu and Kenosee.
  • Our friends at The Tap threw a pizza party in the bunker for RP Show staff and thanked the crew for their support during these tough times in the city.
  • Be sure to vote on the Rockstar of the Day poll for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions on Twitter. Thursday’s winner was the Stampeders Social Media Team. At press time, John Frenzy was leading Friday’s vote.
  • Friday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook page, you can listen to the podcast by clicking on the PODCAST tab at the top of this page, or you can listen anytime to the 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive presented by SUDS Full Service Golf Course.
  • See you at 10 am MT on Facebook Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!

The big news last night was that Trump has declared gyms an essential service, which may reopen soon. If athletes in the US go back to gyms, good luck. Janny, the chief medical officer in Calgary was asked to explain the large # of cases vis-a-vis Edmonton. Two reasons – larger air traffic volumes, more cluster groups (conventions etc). He stated 1 infected person on average passes it to 2 people. Put them in a room of 20 people for a day or 2 & most of the room is infected. They may also be asymptomatic for days & voila,… Read more »
