FOOTBALL FRIDAY RECAP: KACKERT TROLLS JAY & DAN!

It was an accident troll, but a great troll nonetheless, on Friday’s Episode #220 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Read on:

  • Rod and Dupes opened Football Friday with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore, covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NFL Draft Round 1 takeaways, 2) Rod’s Dallas Cowboys take Oklahoma WR CeeCee Lamb #17 overall, 3) Brady’s Buccaneers select Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs (did TB12 have a hand in that?), 4) The NHL’s vetting 12 cities as Quarantine Venues, and 4 will be selected (maybe), 5) Thousands tune into Night 1 of the SJHL PS4 Playoff Simulation and Hockey Night In Canada has noticed, and 6) A CFL poll – In what decade did you become a fan?
  • Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Frenzy joined the show via phone from his palatial South Regina estate for his weekly appearance. He said he became a CFL fan in 1948 when the Calgary Stampeders were rolling to a 12-0 campaign (The CFL’s version of the ’72 Dolphins). Frenzy talked about Night 1 of the NFL Draft, gave his thoughts on the Brady & Gronkowski Buccaneers, and had several other entertaining stories. Viewers chimed in that Frenzy is football’s version of Don Cherry, which Rod’s been saying for years.
  • Toronto Argonauts great and 2012 Grey Cup MVP Chad Kackert joined the show from his home in Dallas, TX. He talked about Toronto hosting the 100th Grey Cup in 2012 and how his Argos teammates said at the start of the year, “We’re hosting this thing so we’d better get serious!” Chad discussed originally coming to the CFL out of New Hampshire thanks to a tryout with the Calgary Stampeders where he roomed with Jessie Lumsden for a month. He said he was cut due to a hamstring injury, but was fortunate to get picked up by Toronto which spawned a great pro career. Rod mentioned how Kackert was a favourite of TSN’s Jay & Dan and how they infamously always said his name, “KACK-errrtttt”. “What are their names again,” Kackert asked of the famous TSN duo. “I don’t recall ever having the pleasure of meeting them!” Rod and Dupes had fun with that. Chad said he now works in the fitness industry and invited viewers to check out his IG profile where he’s offering virtual workouts during the pandemic.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: When did you become a CFL fan: 60s & 70s, 1980s, 1990s or 2000s? The majority of respondents voted for the 1980s. Hall of Famer Terry Vaughn was watching the show and chimed in with “1995 when I came to the league”. Rod informed viewers that “T.V.” was a perennial All Star and the first CFL player to achieve 1,000+ career receptions.
  • The next awesome interview was with CFL great Chip Cox (Montreal 2007-2018) who joined the show from his home in Columbus, OH. The feared LB said he couldn’t watch the CFL in 2019 because it hurt too much, being out of the league. He said, after discussing it with his wife, that he still wants to play in the CFL and doesn’t care what the money is. He said, at age 36, he still has plenty of gas left in the tank and wants teams to know his desire to play. Chip took questions from viewers and said the toughest receiver to cover was former Roughrider slotback Chris Getzlaf.
  • Bob Lancaster, the youngest of the famed Lancaster clan (the CFL’s First Family), joined the show from Charlotte, NC where he’s coaching high school football. He’s spent years on and off the staff at Catawba College but said he’d like to get back into the NCAA or CFL. He was a guest coach on multiple occasions with Saskatchewan. Bob talked about his father Ron’s statue outside Mosaic Stadium (he hasn’t seen it in person yet), talked about growing up in Regina, and renewed acquaintances with viewers who went to high school with him at Campbell Collegiate. Many viewers were awestruck by Bob’s resemblance to his famous father Ron, “the greatest Roughrider of ’em all”. He also discussed his nephew Marc Mueller, the QBs coach with the Calgary Stampeders. Bob said he never really had to guide Marc much since he was a student of the game since birth.
  • The guys closed the show with CFL Draft talk, Canadian media coverage of the CFL, and discussed their weekend plans.
