FOOTBALL FRIDAY RECAP: REINEBOLD JOINS FROM SUPER BOWL!

It was another fantastic Football Friday on Episode 168 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod, Dupes and Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these topics: 1) The “Bidding Season” in the CFL opening on Sunday, 2) Do we like the new Free Agent Negotiation Window?, 3) Why hasn’t Willie Jefferson signed in the NFL yet?, 4) The Collaros/Nichols saga in Winnipeg, 5) Charleston Hughes’ reported salary bump, 6) NFL in Toronto, and 7) Tom Brady’s cryptic Instagram post that has NFL media abuzz.
  • RP Show Director of Scouting Craig Smith joined the bunker in Segment 2 and the guys discussed at length how the new CFL Free Agent bidding process will work. Rod feels it’ll be a clerical and accounting headache for the CFL head office. They also debated why the CFL needs to be defended by advocates Chris Jones, Jeff Reinebold and Rod to American football types.
  • Reinebold joined the show via video chat from Radio Row at Super Bowl LIV in Miami Beach, FL. Jeff is covering the NFL championship for Europe’s Sky Sports and detailed his week. He said CFL media could be a lot better in promoting their league, and could take some cues from their American counterparts during Super Bowl Week. He further said Tom Brady’s post is out-of-character, given that he’s completely stolen the show from the Chiefs and 49ers during the biggest week of the season. Craig Smith and Reinebold went deep on the Super Bowl X’s and O’s and Jeff said you can find his Super Bowl prediction at Oddschecker.com.
  • Alouettes GM Danny Maciocia joined the show from his office in Montreal to discuss his first few weeks on the job and the hiring of Brendan Taman as Sr. Director of Player Personnel (covering Western Canada). Danny discussed the changes in CFL football operations since he last worked in the league for the Eskimos in 2008. He explained the resurgence in popularity of the Alouettes in Quebec and his relationship with new owners Gary Stern and Sid Spiegel.
  • BC Lions front office staffer Matt Baker joined the show via video chat from the Lions facility in Surrey, BC to discuss the feathers ruffled last Friday on the show by Sportsnet Radio’s James Cybulski that it’s “incredibly difficult” to be a CFL supporter in Vancouver these days. Matt discussed 2020 marketing and ticketing initiatives by the Lions and some of the challenges the franchise faces on the Lower Mainland.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win Super Bowl LIV: Chiefs or 49ers? The majority of respondents are picking Kansas City.
