FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we tackled all the latest topics on Episode #485 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talk Show! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup for Four Seasons Sports Palace covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Thursday NHL leftovers (congrats to the Avs!), 2) ESPN pundits feel Aaron Rodgers may hold out this entire season, 3) Is the Jaguars signing Tim Tebow fair for other players?, 4) More NFL schedule leftovers, 5) Would Indoor Football work in Canada? And is spring football taboo?, and 6) CFL leftovers (the Blue Bombers sign Rams product Robbie Lowes).
  • RP Show NFL analyst Tori Gurley joined the show to discuss all these topics but also dropped the bomb that he and wife Kim (a Strasbourg, SK product) are expecting Tori Gurley Jr. in November! Gurley is a Packers alum and said Aaron Rodgers has been unhappy in Green Bay for quite some time. He feels this will end in a trade before Rodgers has a chance to holdout and Denver is a likely destination. The bulk of Tori’s appearance covered the Rodgers saga but he also answered various NFL questions from viewers.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will Aaron Rodgers ever wear a Packers uniform again? At press time over 70% of respondents said no.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff we had a lively debate with viewers and Hall of Fame Roughriders broadcaster John “Frenzy” Lynch regarding the Covid situation in Canada and how it relates to the CFL. John was particularly discouraged. They also talked a lot about the other football that’s going on now (The Spring League, Maritime Football League) and if Canadians are football snobs?
  • A real treat was a visit with 9-year Green Bay Packers veteran, Super Bowl champion and former Calgary Stampeder defensive back Jarrett Bush from Green Bay. We delved deeper into the Rodgers saga and, since he’s a close friend, Bush related all of Aaron Rodgers’ side of the story. However he also gave the Packers side of the story and feels this is why they’re at an impasse. Bush was with the Stampeders in 2016-2017 and told stories of suiting up in the CFL and how much he enjoyed learning a new country and game. However in the end, Jarrett admitted football is still football and “it still all comes down to blocking and tackling”. He also feels that Bo Levi Mitchell could fit in seamlessly in the NFL, and perhaps even be a starter. “All anyone needs is a chance,” Bush said.
  • Rod and Darren Faced Off on the Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs sitting regulars for tonight’s finale in Winnipeg. Rod said that’s always damaged the integrity of the game, affects sports betting, and wondered how referee Tim Peel could be fired but the Leafs and Jets get away with this? Darren feels it’s not as bad as Rod thinks, and that as long as there’s enough notice for the oddsmakers, it’s not a big deal. The Face Off is a presentation of UFZ Moose Jaw and The Mad Greek Restaurant in Moose Jaw.

The Toronto Maple Leafs won’t be going too far in the 2021 playoffs if they happen to get past their Canadian counterparts and play down South against the American clubs, that #44 is a deep play liability who gets caught out of position far too often, a big liability to the overall team system.
