FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN – BREAUX, HEBERT & MORE!

IMG_9265

We hosted our third and final show from the Best Western Premier Calgary Airport Inn on Friday and it was ball for all for Flame Tech! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked off The Warmup for EECOL Electric with these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Buccaneers got past the Cowboys 31-29 in the NFL season-opener, 2) Rod bemoaned the realties of Fantasy Football versus real-life football, 3) The Blue Jays won their eighth in a row, 6-4 over the Yankees, 4) More CFL Week 6 previews, 5) Canadians are dominating at the U.S. Open tennis tournament and 6) College football, Canada West football & WHL rule changes.
  • News broke in Hour 1 that Roughriders defensive lineman A.C. Leonard has been suspended two games for refusing to provide a drug sample for PED testing and the Stampeders have named Bo Levi Mitchell their starting quarterback for Saturday’s game at Edmonton. The panel debated these developments with viewers, and related the Leonard story to Andrew Harris’s positive PED suspension two years ago. It’s clear the Riders will be undermanned for Saturday’s Banjo Bowl (the Bombers are favoured by 1-point).
  • New Orleans Saints & Hamilton TigerCats alum Delvin Breaux joined the show from New Orleans for a life update. Delvin’s been a show regular and discussed the silver lining in announcing his retirement after three NFL seasons and five CFL seasons during the pandemic. The decision allowed him to be home with his son to deal with Hurricane Ida, and Breaux admitted his family’s still without power. Delvin reflected on his career, pumped the Ticats’ tires, and talked about this motivational speaking career and the release of his book UN-BREAUX-KEN, where he details returning to the playing field after suffering a severe neck injury. It was an inspirational chat!
  • Dupes is looking for an NCAA Football team to root for (Rod’s is Alabama), and that spawned the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question of: Which team should Moose cheer for – Penn State, Oregon, Texas or Florida? At press time, Oregon was leading.
  • In the Hour 2 Second Half Kickoff for CORR Grain we were joined by Olympic gold medal-winning curler Ben Hebert of Alberta’s Team Koe. The Regina product is close friends with Bo Levi Mitchell, neighbours in fact, and they host the popular Benny & Bo Show Podcast. Hebert said he found out Thursday night that Bo will start on Saturday and predicts it’ll give 1-4 Calgary an emotional lift. Rod and Ben delved into the feud with BLM and Ben feels it’s high time that the spat comes to an end. Rod agreed, and there may be a Bo appearance on the RP Show in the future! They also previewed the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials at SaskTel Centre in November, and the curling landscape.
  • The final three segments were devoted to Viewer Takeover and the hosts kibitzed with viewers about this weekend’s NFL and CFL games.
  • Friday’s show is available for viewing now on our Facebook/YouTube pages, you can catch the replay at 4:00 pm ET on Game+ TV, listen to the podcast by clicking on the CONTENT tab at the top of this page or listen anytime to our 24-hour live audio feed at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive.

If seeking a college team these have been mine for over 30 yrs: – michigan – miami “the U” – oklahoma Great teams, history, and these programs can always rise again. Alabama was a lost in the wilderness program much like USC was. They are essentially programs that are run by a Czar and when he leaves thats the end of the road. Alabama to watch/enjoy is incredible. Sunday they have 70 alumni in nfl. 3 of their last qb’s are under age 24 and starting. Saban essentially built an organization that is a feeder pipeline to the nfl. When… Read more »

Question – why is mosaic stadium a mish mash of pizza slice seating, is saskatchewan not capable to configure true circular bowl seating?

Answer because to get rid of the “university” seating which was an embarrassment they created Pil country. So those animals are free to stand in a cement casing with wire mesh counters where they can drink, puke, fight and be left alone. The rest of us can enjoy the game.

Separation and barriers amongst people is not a bad thing.

Thanx for the explanation. But I’d still rather see true bowl seating (NW, NE, bottom corners) right around the whole circumference of the stadium rather a pizza slice here a pizza slice there. Oh well, it is what it is, thanx again.
