The final day of the Darren Dupont takeover was a Football Friday, which meant that Darren was joined in the studio by John “Frenzy” Lynch. Here’s the rundown:

Quick Six-all NHL edition:

  1. NHL goaltending means everything in the North Division playoffs- Darren and John discussed how important goaltending has been for the Habs and the Jets, and why, because of Carey Price and Connor Hellebuyck, both series’ may be closer than initially thought
  2. John Tavares injury, a status update on Tavares (he’s been released from hospital and is recovering from home, out indefinitely).
  3. Dupont and Lynch also debated on the merits of the staged fight, was it necessary or unnecessary, this was also the Daily Poll question, and most respondents believe the fight was unnecessary.
  4. Ryan Lomberg got the winning goal for the Florida Panthers in a 6-5 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night, and Florida is back in the series. Tampa now leads 2-1, game three goes Saturday at 10:30 am CST, 12:30 pm EST.
  5. Crosby made another ridiculous defensive play for the Pittsburgh Penguins as Pittsburgh held on to beat the NY Islanders 5-4 to take a 2-1 series lead.
  6. Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury led his team to victory, after a shaky start to the game. Good to see him fight through it and bounce back, we’ve seen him struggle in the past with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the playoffs.

After the break, Darren and John got into some football talk, starting with the first interview.

Interview #1Jim Mullin, President of Football Canada, host of Krown Girdiron on TSN, and patron of the Cornish Trophy-awarded to the best Canadian NCAA football player.

In the interview, Darren, John and Jim discussed their love of Canadian football, their thoughts on the CFL/XFL and what to expect from this year’s Cornish trophy ceremony, which is scheduled for May 24th. The RP Show cut to a break after the interview.

Return from Break

Dupont and Lynch took viewer comments and continued their discussion of why they love Canadian football so much and Darren read a Tap Brewhouse and Drive-Thru Liquor Store update. John Lynch then also said he believed Jim Mullin was “CFL commissioner material”.

Return from Break

PGA Championship Update- Canadian Corey Connors not doing well in Day 2, Phil Mikkelson leading the field. Darren then also did a tennis update, and John Lynch read his list of Riders players to watch out for, who is most excited for, etc. That took us to the end of hour one.

Hour Two-Interview #2

Darren and John continued the football talk in the second hour with the second interview of the day, this time with 3DownNation’s and Hamilton CHCH Sports Reporter Justin Dunk. Dunk discussed the status of the CFL and Bob Young’s comments on twitter. Dunk also said that he believes the best course of action for the CFL’s return to play in the interim is to have the Ontario and Quebec teams play in a hub in Saskatchewan for the first month or so of the season, should it return in August.

Interview #3

The third interview was with Moe Khan of TSN 690 in Montreal, who is also the host of the McGill Marauders. Khan and Dupont discussed the game last night, and debated the merits of the Nick Foligno-Corey Perry fight, which they both agreed was completely unnecessary. Khan also believes the Leafs will come back stronger in game 2, and he is curious to see what Toronto does with their goalie situation and their forward lineup now that Tavares is out indefinitely.

Overtime/Faceoff

For the final quarter of the show, Darren was joined by Producer Clark and the two wholly discussed hockey. They first began overtime with the fun face-off topic “should we permanently take the RP Show to Florida?”, Darren said yes, Clark said no. They finished off the show talking about the games last nights and the slate of games for tonight, mainly how good Colorado is. That was it for the final day of the Darren Dupont takeover! Enjoy the long weekend and we’ll see everyone next Tuesday!

Philipp Kurashev should be playing on the Russian International Hockey Team not Switzerland. Kurashev fast with a high octane hockey sense. Chicago Black Hawks need to get this guy into a predominant NHL roster rotation with their team, don’t send him down to the farm.

The Cold Hard Hockey Fact;

Wayne Gretzky would never have kept up with Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid. Wayne was wayyy too slow. Wayne Gretzky played slow methodical plug hockey while relying alot on his teammates … Connor McDavid a one man wrecking crew when he gets going_ thats a cold hard hockey fact.
