FRIDAY CAT COUNTRY COMMENTARY
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9;50 AM and 5:20 PM on Cat Country 98 FM)
OVER A YEAR LATER, BROCK LESNAR IN ASSINIBOIA IS STILL WORLDWIDE NEWS.
IT WAS APRIL 13 OF LAST YEAR THAT THE WORLD’S #1 COMBAT SPORTS STAR WAS THE GUEST SPEAKER AT THE ASSINIBOIA CELEBRITY SPORTS DINNER AT THE PRINCE OF WALES CENTRE. DUE TO A CLOSE FRIENDSHIP WITH ORGANIZER CURTIS NELSON, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE THE EMCEE.
ANY PRE-EVENT JITTERS WERE GOTTEN OUT OF THE WAY QUICKLY, BECAUSE BROCK LESNAR TURNED OUT TO BE JUST ONE OF THE GUYS. RAISED ON A FARM IN TINY WEBSTER, SOUTH DAKOTA AS THE YOUNGEST OF THREE BOYS, WE HAD A LOT IN COMMON.
YOU SHOULD KNOW LESNAR DID THE EVENT FOR FREE – MOSTLY JUST TO GIVE BACK TO ANOTHER SASKATCHEWAN COMMUNITY (HE LIVES IN MARYFIELD BY THE MANITOBA BORDER).
HE SPOKE FOR EXACTLY AN HOUR AND VERY FEW QUESTIONS WERE NEEDED. HE SPOKE OF HIS BRIEF TIME IN THE NFL, DEALINGS WITH VINCE MCMAHON AND DANA WHITE, AND EXPLAINED THE CURIOUS DECISION TO LIVE IN RURAL SASKATCHEWAN WHEN HE COULD LITERALLY LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, IN LUXURY.
THE INTERVIEW WENT GLOBAL OVERNIGHT AND I WAS REMINDED OF IT THIS WEEK WHEN I GOT A TWITTER NOTIFICATION THAT IT WAS JUST PICKED UP IN THE SUN NEWSPAPER CHAIN IN THE U-K.
IT’S BIG NEWS BECAUSE LESNAR NEVER GIVES INTERVIEWS AND VERY RARELY DOES PUBLIC APPEARANCES. BUT IT’S NOT WHAT YOU THINK.
HE DOESN’T MIND SPEAKING PUBLICLY OR INTERACTING WITH A MICROPHONE IN HIS HAND.
IT’S HIS LAWYER THAT DOESN’T LIKE HIM DOING IT.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
