FRIDAY CAT COUNTRY COMMENTARY – PAY ATTENTION!

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)

AT LEAST THE CALGARY FLAMES CAN SAY THEY MADE HISTORY.

UNFORTUNATELY IT’S ACTUALLY A NIGHT THAT THEY’LL WANT TO FORGET, FAST.

FACING ELIMINATION THURSDAY IN THEIR FIRST ROUND STANLEY CUP PLAYOFF SERIES AGAINST DALLAS, THE FLAMES JUMPED OUT TO A 3-0 LEAD AND THOUGHT THEY HAD IT IN THE BAG.

SADLY A DUMB PENALTY BY FLAMES FORWARD MILAN LUCIC TRIGGERED A STARS POWERPLAY GOAL AND THAT LED TO AN HISTORIC STRETCH OF SEVEN UNANSWERED GOALS BY DALLAS. THEY WENT ON TO WIN 7-3 AND ELIMINATE CALGARY.

IT WAS THE BIGGEST SWING IN THE HISTORY OF NHL PLAYOFFS.

FLAMES FANS BURNT DOWN SOCIAL MEDIA AFTER THE GAME, WITH THE USUAL “FIRE EVERYBODY”.

ONE THING IS FOR SURE – FLAMES GM BRAD TRELIVING WILL WANT TO WAIT A FEW DAYS BEFORE MAKING A DECISION ON REMOVING THE “INTERIM” TAG FROM HEAD COACH GEOFF WARD, OR EVEN RETAINING HIM AT ALL.

FOR ANY KIDS WHO MAY BE LISTENING TO THIS IN THESE WANING DAYS OF SUMMER, PAY ATTENTION DURING THESE STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS!

IT’S CUTE IN THE REGULAR SEASON TO BLOW A LEAD OR TAKE A DUMB PENALTY. IT MAKES FOR GREAT HEADLINES AND POSTGAME INTERVIEWS. BUT IN THE PLAYOFFS, IT’S FATAL.

THIS IS WHAT THE COACHES WERE TRYING TO TELL THEIR TEAMS IN OCTOBER, JANUARY AND MARCH. UNFORTUNATELY THE FLAMES, OILERS AND LEAFS WEREN’T LISTENING.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
