A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:

#1 – Can somebody check on the horse in Calgary? Vernon Adams Jr. served notice that he just might be the CFL’s top quarterback, throwing for a scorching six touchdowns in the Stampeders’ 58-36 blowout of Toronto in Stampeder Bowl II on Thursday.

That’s right. Six tuds to go along with 405 yards and an eye-popping 158.3 Quarterback Rating. That’ll get em talking in the oil company offices in downtown Calgary today, even if an announced crowd of only 19,100 showed up.

The Stampeders announced they ran out of fireworks and again, can somebody see if Quick 6 The Touchdown Horse is okay?

What a way to open Stampede.

#2 – RedBlacks & Roughriders: You’re on the clock. That’s the Friday Night Football affair in Week 5 in Ottawa. Can they match what happened at McMahon Stadium last night? There was a time that this was a blistering rivalry. Not so much anymore I’m guessing.

#3 – From the hockey files — Regina Pats icon Jamie Heward has signed a two-year contract extension as assistant coach of the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights in Nevada. Well-earned, and a big relief in this volatile hockey coaching industry.

#4 – Canada plays Morocco in the Round of 16 game in the World Cup on Saturday afternoon. Will you be watching? It feels as though the country has cooled on the tournament right when it should be ramping up? Regardless, I’ll be watching.

And #5 – Before all of that, we’ve got a doubleheader tonight at Ross Wells Park in Moose Jaw and it’s a first-place showdown as the division-leading Saskatoon Berries come to town! Not sure why, but all my friends and family who’ve promised to come to the Band City to catch a game this season wanna see the Berries. What about the Millers??

Either way, now’s your chance.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Hey Rod, I was in Calgary last nite and went to this game. IT WAS FANTASTIC!

What wasn’t fantastic was the promotion around the game. I watched the CTV Calgary morning show and there was zero mention of the game, no pregame reports, no talk of the game, no nothing! Just disgusting!

If your local media isn’t informing you of the game, then they are a big part of the problem!

CTV Calgary should be ashamed of themselves.

Calgary vs Toronto That was a special CFL game. Chad Kelly is a good QB who has a solid place in this league. It’s good to see him do well. Their defense isn’t up to standard. Vernon Adams Jr – he’s found his spot in Calgary. I remember when the Roughriders had him. Similar to Trevor Harris he was never in a spot where the organization was entirely behind him. The exception with Vernon it was always what’s going on between his ears. He’s figured out the clock, CFL Defenses, it’s slowing down for him and having Dave Dickenson is… Read more »
