A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – It’s a Friday where the second my feet hit the floor, I was excited! What a weekend. The Stanley Cup Playoffs continue to be bonkers with the road teams winning Game 1 of the Conference Finals and the Vegas Golden Knights – still underfire – will try to go up 2-0 with a win at Colorado tonight. Can’t wait for puck drop!
#2 – The Memorial Cup opens tonight in Kelowna with the host Rockets up against the OHL champion Kitchener Rangers. It’s still my favourite hockey tournament of ‘em all and that goes back to being seven years old and attending the Memmer at the Regina Agridome in 1980. Bart Hunter. Doug Wickenheiser. Mike Keenan. Dale Hawerchuk. I’m sorry, but it doesn’t get better. Can’t wait for puck drop!
#3 – It would be fun to be in Saskatoon Saturday to catch the Roughriders and the Blue Bombers at Griffiths Stadium. It’s been well over 30 years since the Bridge City hosted a Rider game and I was told it would never happen again. But as my old pal Gary Etcheverry was fond of saying, “Never’s a long time.” Can’t wait for kickoff!
#4 – A moment of silence for Kyle Busch. I can’t effectively communicate to you what an impact the death of the 41-year old Nascar superstar has had where I live. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say the nation is in morning after Busch passed quickly from a severe illness on Thursday. Nascar was born in Florida (look it up) and this one is hitting the people here hard.
And #5 – Life is short. Take the trip. Buy the tickets. Eat the cake. And don’t waste another day.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Thank you for #5. You live it and are a phenomenal example.
NASCAR – Days of Thunder. Those drivers in the south are akin to Gods. Petty, Earnhardt and now Busch. NASCAR was born from running booze in dry counties and prohibition. It was not for the faint of heart.
Memorial Cup memory. First one was watching Portland and then Regina/Kamloops and that was to this day as big as I have seen in person. If Regina went there they would have had it.
It will happen for Regina again. Guaranteed.
