A MIXED BAG OF THOUGHTS AS WE HEAD INTO THE WEEKEND …

WE PROBABLY SHOULD TALK MORE NHL HOCKEY HERE. THIS IS CANADA AFTER ALL, AND THE PLAYOFFS ARE JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

IT’S STARTLING TO NOTE THAT THE CALGARY FLAMES ARE WELL OUT OF A PLAYOFF SPOT AS WE NEAR THE HOMESTRETCH AND ALL THAT TELLS ME IS THAT THE SUMMER’S GOING TO BE MORE INTERESTING IN COWTOWN THAN THE WINTER HAS BEEN.

THE RACE TO WIN THE SCOTIA NORTH DIVISION – THE PLAYOFFS I MEAN – IS GOING TO BE SCINTILLATING. IT’LL BE TORONTO, EDMONTON OR WINNIPEG COMING OUT, I’M GUESSING, BUT THE REAL WINNER WILL BE US, THE FANS.

ON ANOTHER NOTE, THURSDAY’S REVELATION BY CFL OWNERS THROUGH TSN’S DAVE NAYLOR THAT THERE WILL BE NO SEASON WITHOUT FANS WAS BITTERLY DISAPPOINTING TO ME.

STAKEHOLDERS ACROSS THIS COUNTRY WERE BEING ASSURED BY TEAM AND LEAGUE LEADERS THAT THE CFL WILL PLAY IN 2021, AND NOW IT’S BEEN FLIPPED BACK ONTO THE GOVERNMENT.

NO, NO, NO. THE CFL HAS HAD OVER A YEAR TO FIGURE THIS OUT AND I’VE DEFENDED THEM TO THE PEOPLE THAT SAID THE CFL’S THE ONLY BIG LEAGUE WHO HASN’T FIND A WAY TO PLAY.

IF THEY DON’T HIT THE FIELD THIS SUMMER – BE IT IN A BUBBLE OR ON THE MOON – IT’S INDEFENSIBLE AND WILL ASSUREDLY BE THE END OF THE CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

AS A LEAGUE, I’D RATHER GO DOWN SWINGING THAN WHATEVER THIS IS.

AND LASTLY ACTION CONTINUES IN THE DUB HUB, HERE AT REGINA’S BRANDT CENTRE.

CONNOR BEDARD WILL POTENTIALLY PLAY HIS LAST GAME OF THE SEASON TODAY AT 4 PM WHEN HIS PATS TAKE ON THE BRANDON WHEAT KINGS AND YOU CAN WATCH IT ON ACCESS-NOW TV.

AFTERWARDS HE’LL HEAD HOME TO VANCOUVER TO BE WITH FAMILY AFTER THE TRAGIC DEATH OF HIS GRANDFATHER THIS WEEK AND WHERE HE GOES AFTER THAT ISN’T REALLY THAT IMPORTANT NOW.

THE SITUATION IS ANOTHER REMEMBER OF WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN OUR LIVES.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.

Random thoughts. So it’s been rumoured that MLSE are the ones pushing for an XFL/CFL collaboration? MLSE has had their eyes on an NFL franchise for a long time, have they not? Goodell has said that global expansion is something they want. He has said he’d like to bring some games to Canada. If the venture were to fail & we go back to square one, perhaps start a more Canadian league with places like Saskatoon, Halifax etc on board, my question is why would Toronto be interested? Fail & the road is clear for them to seek an NFL… Read more »

What state-of-the-art-facility? If you’re talking the football stadium in Regina it’s anything but state-of-the-art. Substantially completed in 2016 this part time venue has been sitting vacant for the most part a majority of it’s existence. Its deteriorating already at aprox 6 years of age when it first opened to the public, soon it will be 10 years old and sorely outdated on it’s rotting location.
