FRIDAY COMMENTARY – TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)

I COULDN’T DECIDE BETWEEN TWO TOPICS TODAY SO I’VE ELECTED TO MENTION THEM BOTH …

REPORTS ON THE CFL ARE FEW THESE DAYS AND WE CAN ONLY GO BY WHAT WE HEAR.

IT WAS ONE WEEK AGO THAT COMMISSIONER RANDY AMBROSIE STATED LEAGUE LEADERS ARE EXPLORING ALL OPTIONS TO PLAY NEXT SEASON. THAT INCLUDES, I’M SURE, PLAYING WITH FULL STADIUMS, LIMITED FANS ALLOWED, NO FANS AT ALL OR NOT PLAYING AT ALL.

TO ME, EXAMINING ANY SCENARIO THAT IS NOT PLAYING IN EMPTY STADIUMS IS A FOOL’S ERRAND.

I SPEAK WITH GOVERNMENT AND HEALTH OFFICIALS TOO AND I’M CERTAIN THE CFL IS GETTING THE SAME MESSAGE – DON’T EXPECT ANYTHING TO CHANGE BY NEXT SUMMER.

SHOOT – WE’RE ALMOST NINE MONTHS INTO THIS THING AND INDOOR GATHERINGS ARE LIMITED TO 10 IN THIS, THE MOST SPACIOUS PROVINCE IN THE COUNTRY!

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT “HOPE FOR THE BEST BUT PLAN FOR THE WORST”.

BIG BUSINESS PEOPLE ARE WATCHING THE SPORTS LEAGUES VERY CLOSELY AND ARE PREDICTING THAT THEY WILL STRIP THEIR STAFF RIGHT DOWN TO A BARE MINIMUM, AND CAN’T QUITE FIGURE OUT WHY IT HASN’T HAPPENED YET.

AND THE OTHER TOPIC IS MY GUILTY PLEASURE, THE SASKATCHEWAN JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE.

THEY’RE GONNA GIVE IT A GO WITH THEIR REGULAR SEASON OPENING TONIGHT WITH FAN CAPACITY AT 150 PER ARENA. TONIGHT IT’S THE STARS AT THE KLIPPERS, THE HAWKS AT THE ICE WOLVES, THE BOMBERS AT THE MUSTANGS, THE BRUINS AT THE MILLIONAIRES AND THE BRONCOS AT THE TERRIERS. ON SATURDAY, IT’S THE HOUNDS AT THE RED WINGS.

THEY’RE NOT GOING TO BE STOPPED AND TO BE HONEST, IT BRINGS A TEAR TO MY EYE.

THAT’S SASKATCHEWAN TOUGH.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
