FRIDAY COMMENTARY – WHAT COULD BE BETTER

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

ON THURSDAY I SUGGESTED TO GET OUT AND ENJOY WHAT THE PROVINCE HAS TO OFFER, IF YOU CAN.

THAT SAME EVENING, I PUT MY MONEY WHERE MY MOUTH IS AND TOOK IN BUFFALO DAYS AT REGINA’S EXHIBITION GROUNDS.

IT NEVER DISAPPOINTS. THE WEATHER WAS GREAT AND A LOT OF THINGS STRUCK ME.

ONE, IT’S NICE THAT ALL MY FAVOURITE FOOD VENDORS ARE ALWAYS IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT EVERY YEAR. THE SAME GOES FOR THE FOOD TRUCKS THAT I AVOID. I MADE A BEE-LINE FOR THE 12-INCH CORNDOG AND WOLFED IT DOWN WITHOUT EVEN A CHANCE TO ENJOY IT. I ALSO SLAMMED A PEPPERONI PIZZA FROM THE OTHER END OF THE MIDWAY, AND A 7-DOLLAR ROOT BEER. SAME AS EVERY YEAR, MINUS THE FUDGE.

TWO, THERE WERE LESS RIDES THAN NORMAL BUT IT’S NOT LIKE I WAS GOING TO GO ON THEM ANYWAY. I HAVEN’T REALLY BEEN FOLLOWING THE NEWS COVERAGE OF THE FAIR, BUT IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE RIDES ARE SOCIALLY-DISTANCED.

THE ONLY REASON I NOTICED IS I WENT LOOKING FOR THE POLAR EXPRESS, AND IT WASN’T THERE. I LIKE LISTENING TO THE MUSIC!

THREE, IT’S ALWAYS NICE TO UNWIND AND ENJOY SOME COUNTRY MUSIC. WE GOT TO DO JUST THAT THANKS TO AN INVITATION FROM OUR FRIENDS AT PRAIRIE MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS, TO ENJOY WASHBOARD UNION AND THE HUNTER BROTHERS FROM THE CORPORATE SEATS.

FOR THOSE BOYS FROM SHAUNAVON, I COULDN’T HELP BUT FEEL EXTREMELY HAPPY FOR THEM AS THEY’RE TRYING TO MAKE A CAREER IN A REAL TOUGH BUSINESS AND COVID HAS KICKED THEM IN THE SHINS FOR A YEAR AND A HALF, JUST AS THEY’RE ON THE VERGE OF “MAKING IT”.

IT WAS AN EVENING OF SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE ENJOYING AND SUPPORTING SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE.

WHAT COULD BE BETTER?
