A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:

#1 – NGL. Not gonna lie – the #1 item on my mind sports-wise is Saturday’s home-opener for the Saskatchewan Roughriders as they welcome the BC Lions in a rematch of last year’s West Division Final.

The game itself will be delicious but as you know, I enjoy the game within the game. For instance Rider QB Trevor Harris is already 8th all-time in passing in Saskatchewan (that didn’t take long did it?) and he enters the game 250 yards back of the Throwin’ Samoan Joe Paopao for 7th.

Meanwhile on the other side, BC’s Nathan Rourke is also 8th in all-time passing for BC and 334 yards behind Paopao for 7th there!

Wild.

#2 – BC averaged 430 yards per game offense last season and that was just the first season under new head coach Buck Pierce. Riders better be ready. Meanwhile Buck’s 11 wins in BC as a rookie coach are second only to Mike Benevides’ 13 in 2012. The 11 tie him with Don Matthews and Wally Buono for second on the list for first year Lions coaches.

#3 – When it comes to sports betting/picking, sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes you’re the bug. I was 0/2 on my Thursday picks. Winnipeg lost 37-27 to Hamilton in the CFL while the Vegas Golden Knights got smoked 4-2 in Carolina in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. Now the Knights face elimination Sunday night at home. Thank God I don’t put money on these picks!

But you can’t get a hit if you don’t step into the batter’s box.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
