FRIDAY RECAP: FOOTBALL FRIDAY AND BODY BREAK!

Fridays are reserved for football but we had a special guest on Episode #283 of The RP Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstores covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Turnover Atlantic! Toronto beat Saskatchewan 12-7 in Thursday night’s CFL SIM broadcast and the teams combined for 16 turnovers, 2) In other CFL SIM games, BC downed Montreal 27-9 and Edmonton defeated Ottawa 16-9, 3) The latest on the CFL (3DownNation reports we won’t have a decision on the season until the end of July), 4) RP read off Dave Naylor’s list of Tweets Friday morning on CFL Bubble City protocols, 5) It’s opening day for the Blue Jays and the Raptors take on Houston in NBA exhibition play in the Orlando bubble, and 6) What’s happening in the NFL?
  • Canadian pop culture icon Hal Johnson from the popular series Body Break joined the show to discuss a variety of things including racial inequality (he was hired then fired from TSN in the 1980s on the same day due to his colour, but TSN has since apologized. Hal discussed his father being from the USA and his mother being from Rosetown, SK and what it was like growing up in a bi-racial family. Johnson also explained the origin of Body Break, his public speaking career, and filming The Amazing Race Season 1 at Regina’s Taylor Field.
  • John Frenzy discussed the plight of the CFL and still prays that the season will get underway, eventually.
  • Hour 2 was broadcast on Facebook Live only and sportscaster Julie Stewart-Binks joined the show from Manhattan. She told some amusing stories of pandemic life in NYC, and said a recent guest on her show Drinks With Binks was NFL Insider Adam Schefter who admitted the NFL has no Plan B.
  • BC Lions WR Shaq Johnson joined the show to discuss life as a CFL player at the moment and how optimistic the Lions players are for whenever CFL play resumes. Shaq also reflected on his road to the CFL through the CJFL and his blossoming hip hop career. Rod suggested the CFL release an album featuring its variety of hip hop artists including Duron Carter, Naaman Roosevelt and Don Jackson with proceeds going to the CFLPA.
  • News broke at the end of the show that Henry Burris is joining the Chicago Bears as part of their coaching internship program and RP said Burris would make a great CFL Commissioner. He then discussed the fire Randy Ambrosie is under and feels Ambrosie simply delivers the message from owners and presidents.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Do you like the name “Seattle Kraken”? Over 70% of respondents said yes.
