Friday’s show was Episode #45 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • The boys changed things up for The Warmup as Rod was joined in the bunker by Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch and The Sports Doctor, Dave Petrishen from Winnipeg. They recapped the wild Thursday night CFL games where Toronto upset Winnipeg 28-27 and Saskatchewan knocked off Hamilton 24-19.
  • The panel discussed the rising star that is Rider QB Cody Fajardo and Rod mentioned the Riders might want to start contract extension talks with the Nevada product. Although the Ticats were undermanned, they agreed that it’s tough to win anytime in the CFL and the Riders deserve full marks for the victory. They’re the hottest team in the CFL, winning four of their past five games. If Fajardo came out of that game nicked up, he’ll have plenty of time to rest before the team’s next game, at Montreal in Week 9.
  • The Sports Doctor admitted that the Bombers have been disappointing in back-to-back losses to East Division teams who were playing with back-up QBs. As far as the Bombers go, the Doc feels they deserve the criticism which is being heaped their way from the fans.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the better CFL team through Week 8: Saskatchewan or Winnipeg? 79% of respondents say it’s the Riders.
  • Rider greats Reggie Hunt and Maurice Lloyd joined the program via video chat. The Reaper was on the line from Denison, TX where he’s coaching high school football. He regaled the panel with stories from his time with the Riders and continued the theme of Rider alum who regret leaving the Riders for richer contracts with other CFL teams. The same went for “Mo”, who joined the show from Connecticut. Viewers really love the interviews with Rider greats.
  • CTV’s Don Hewitt joined the show in Hour 2 and talked more about Fajardo. He wonders why the Argos and Lions let Fajardo slip through their grasp, leading to him signing with Saskatchewan as a free agent. Rod countered that those teams had Ricky Ray and Travis Lulay, and Fajardo wasn’t going to get the playing time there.
  • The panel previewed the tantalizing Friday Night Football game in Montreal between the Alouettes and Ottawa RedBlacks. The Als are after their 4th straight win while the RedBlacks are hoping to avoid a 5th-straight loss.
  • In honour of show #45, the crew debated sports stars who’ve worn number-45 and that includes Mike McCullough, Randy Srochenski, Kacey Rodgers, Pedro Martinez, Kyle Petty and Carlo Colaiacovo.
  • Dupes slid into the bunker for the Overtime segment and previewed tonight’s Saskatchewan Rattlers/Fraser Valley Bandits CEBL clash at SaskTel Centre. Dupes will be doing colour commentary on the web broadcast, and Rod will be courtside. Tipoff is 7:30.
