Friday was Episode #49 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!:

  • It was a Football Friday and Rod was joined in the bunker by Rams & Bombers alum Addison Richards and Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch. The boys recapped the Thursday Night Football clash where Winnipeg knocked off Calgary 26-24. They also discussed Thursday night’s NFL preseason bonanza, and the heroics of Blue Jays rookie Bo Bichette.
  • Rod and Addison were astounded that coming out of the Bomber victory, Winnipeg fans are upset while Calgary fans aren’t? They agreed that it’s a Grey Cup win or bust for the Blue & Gold. There will likely be firings if the Bombers don’t win it all this year which Addy said, “Is a shame”.
  • 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk joined the show from the Canadian Football Hall of Fame induction weekend at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field. He discussed a variety of CFL issues but dropped the bomb that XFL teams are interested in pending free agent QB Cody Fajardo, the rising star of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
  • The Riders are at Montreal Friday night (5:00 pm MT on TSN), and Addy figures the Riders are getting a real break that Montreal leading rusher William Stanback isn’t playing, particularly since the Riders are missing D-line studs Micah Johnson, Zack Evans and AC Leonard.
  • Regarding the retirement of Weston Dressler, Lynch said he’d rate him 4th or 5th all-time in Rider history. Rod said, statistically speaking, Dressler is #3 all-time in receptions and yards behind Ray Elgaard and Don Narcisse.
  • At the request of a viewer, John “Frenzy” put on a cock-eyed cap to mimic BC Lions head coach Devone Claybrooks.
  • With it being show #49, the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn #49 in their careers. The list includes Jeff Knox Jr., MLB’s Ron Guidry, the NHL’s Brian Savage and Dallas Cowboys fullback Tony Richardson.
  • Rod mentioned the Regina Red Sox are up 1-0 over Moose Jaw in their best-of-3 first round WMBL series after a 10-2 win Thursday night. The Miller Express host Game 2 Friday night at Ross Wells Park.
  • The guys teed up Friday’s CEBL game at SaskTel Centre between the Saskatchewan Rattlers and Edmonton Stingers. The Rattlers have won 4 in a row.
  • John Graham of On Ice Sports – the management company bringing the NFL’s Raiders and Packers to Winnipeg on August 22 – joined the show via video chat to discuss that game. Ticket prices have been slashed by $100 in order to help fill IG Field. Graham said there was an eager push when tickets initially went on sale, but then sales cooled off. He said the bulk of the ticket sales are from Manitoba and Saskatchewan, however there are fans coming from California and Wisconsin too. John gave 4 tickets to the RP Show to be given away.
  • Saskatoon’s Kirk Muyres from the provincial champion Muyres curling team joined the bunker to talk about the 2019-20 season and the blossoming rivalry between their rink and Braeden Moskowy’s Regina foursome. The RP Show will be providing plenty of curling coverage once the snow flies.
