Friday was Episode #83 of The Rod Pedersen Show. Here are the highlights!

  • Rod and Dupes opened the show with The Warmup, covering the day’s top sports stories including the Eagles’ win at Green Bay on Thursday Night Football, Thursday’s NHL preseason games and a load of CFL topics.
  • Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Lynch joined the bunker in Segment 2 to delve deeper into the CFL issues including the loss of Matt Nichols for the season in Winnipeg, Jordan Williams-Lambert being left at home for Saturday’s Rider game in Toronto, the maximum fine to Hamilton LB Simoni Lawrence (and the issue of repeat offenders in sports), Trevor Harris going to the 6-game Injured List in Edmonton, and Keith Urban being named the halftime act for the 2019 Grey Cup.
  • RP Show NFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show in Hour 1 to discuss Week 4 in the NFL, plus his take on the Trevor Harris story since the pair is close friends. “He’s devastated,” Gurley reported. In the visit Tori touched on the possibility of a 16-0 season for the Patriots, he believes New Orleans will beat Dallas on Sunday Night Football, and a variety of other topics.
  • 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk joined the show from Saskatoon where he’ll be at the mic for Friday night’s Canada West clash between the Huskies and Dinos. He previewed the game, and also gave a wide CFL report including the fact the Eskimos have added former CFL head coach Marcel Bellefeuille as a scout. Dunk said that’s led to speculation that Bellefeuille could be in line to be the next head coach of the Esks, given the pressure on Jason Maas. He also feels the Esks will be in the market for a veteran QB while the Bombers likely won’t be, since they’re happy with Chris Streveler.
  • The Voice of the Argos Mike Hogan joined the show from BMO Field to preview the Riders/Argos game, and offered his take on the Argos QB position.
  • The guys also talked about the Atlantic Schooners situation and what they felt was an ingenious stadium proposal for the City of Halifax, put forth by the Schooners ownership group. Rod feels that it’s a very positive step and that the granting of an expansion franchise is imminent. Lynch isn’t so sure.
  • News broke during the show that the Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms on a 2-year deal with holdout Patrik Laine, with an AAV of $6.75M. The panel debated who’s better: Laine or Mitch Marner? Rod thinks Laine is, but Dupes and Producer Clark scoffed, saying Marner is far better.
  • In honour of show #83, the guys recognized players who’ve worn number-83 in their career and the list includes Andy Fantuz, Travis Moore, Wes Welker, Ales Hemsky and Andre Reed.
