FRIDAY SHOW RECAP: FOOTBALL FRIDAY!

Friday’s show was Episode #88 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened the show with The Warmup, discussing the grand opening of Landmark Cinemas 8 and Thursday’s private screening of Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix. Thanks for the invite! They then covered a wide variety of the day’s hot sports topics including Edmonton at Hamilton on Friday Night Football which opens Week 17 in the CFL, the latest CHL Top 10 rankings, Friday’s Canada West Football match-ups with UBC at Regina and Manitoba at Saskatchewan and Thursday’s NHL games.
  • Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John Frenzy joined the bunker in Segment 2 for more CFL chat. All Frenzy wanted to talk about was Saturday’s Bombers/Riders game at Mosaic Stadium, and predicted Saskatchewan will romp to a double-digit victory. The guys also discussed rumours that the Bombers and Argos will pull off a trade in advance of next week’s CFL Trade Deadline.
  • RP Show NFL/CFL Insider Tori Gurley joined the show via video chat to discuss Week 5 in the NFL, plus the latest CFL news. He was in attendance at Ralph Wilson Stadium last weekend for Bills Legends Weekend, and took in the Patriots/Bills clash. He also offered an assessment on the Riders’ Jordan Williams-Lambert/Manny Arceneaux debate and said it all comes down to business decisions, as well as age. Tori also said he doesn’t buy Bo Levi Mitchell’s story that the Minnesota Vikings wouldn’t allow him to compete for the starting QB job with Kirk Cousins.
  • Former Lions/Bombers/Riders DE Daved Benefield joined the show from a Tim Hortons in BC via video chat and said the Riders are the top team in the CFL right now. He also talked about Vancouver-area kids who are making waves in the NCAA.
  • WHL Commissioner Ron Robison joined the show from his office in Calgary for a wide-ranging discussion on the Dub. The Indian Head, SK product talked of the success of small market teams in P.A. and Swift Current, the WHL’s future in Winnipeg, and the high number of WHL grads in the NHL. He ended the visit with a “Go Riders!”
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Are the 2019 Tiger-Cats the best Ticats team in history? The majority of respondents said “no”, closely followed by “It’s too soon to tell”.
  • In honour of show #88, the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn number-88 in their careers and the group included Matt Dominguez, William Nylander, Eric Lindros, Brad Sinopoli, Michael Irvin and Patrick Kane.
  • The show ended with Regina’s Massey Twins – Tom and Bobby – who are YouTube stars. They discussed their interviews with the NHL’s Ryan Reaves and WWE’s Chris Jericho, and why they feel their show has become so popular.
  • Rod welcomed the newest addition to the show set, a helmet provided by the UofR Rams.
