FRIDAY SHOW RECAP: FOOTBALL FRIDAY!

ARASH2

Friday’s Episode #230 of The Rod Pedersen Show was hotly-anticipated and it didn’t disappoint! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod and Dupes opened with The Rollout for Flooring Superstore covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Randy Ambrosie grilled by House of Commons reps, 2) Should the NFL fund the CFL?, 3) How did the NFL and NHL blow by the CFL in the early 1980’s for popularity and growth?, 4) Travis Lulay leaving the BC Lions, 5) NFL schedule release, and 6) Korean Baseball scores!
  • Regarding Ambrosie’s address to the House of Commons and the tough questions he faced, Rod explained that he himself handles government relations for The Recovery Hour, Pedersen Recovery Inc. and some sectors of the Mental Health & Addictions field in Saskatchewan. He feels the questions from Federal Government reps weren’t out of line because everybody has their hand out and the government needs the lobbyist to sell them on their case. Whether Ambrosie did a good enough job of that would be a theme throughout the entire show.
  • Hall of Fame Rider broadcaster John “Frenzy” Lynch joined the show via phone and had himself worked into a frenzy that the CFL will fold and what will we do with the new Mosaic Stadium? Lynch frothed that not enough is being done by Brad Wall, Pat Fiacco and Saskatchewan football reps but Rod reasoned that’s not their jobs anymore. It’s up to the leaders who are currently in place to save the CFL.
  • Canuck Play’s Dave Winter from the video game Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football joined the show to discuss their latest addition, the history behind launching a Canadian video game, and dealing with CFL officials regarding using the league’s logos and players. Regarding Federal aid for the CFL, Winter observed, “I’ve seen a lot more spent on less.”
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should the CFL look to the NFL for funding? At press time, over 60% of respondents said yes.
  • Rod observed that the time may have come for the CFL to receive a major cash injection from the NFL, and become a true farm league for the NFL. Many viewers joined the discussion and asked how that would look? 4 downs? Field dimensions? Etc. Rod explained that’s a conversation for much farther down the line.
  • Sportsnet’s Arash Madani joined the show from Toronto to dissect Ambrosie’s address to the Canadian government. The CFL Insider admitted that Ambrosie’s comments were “jarring” regarding the perilous situation the CFL currently faces. He felt Ambrosie’s answers to the pointed questions were lacking.
  • Canada’s foremost NFL Insider Jim Lang joined the show from Toronto and said he applauds Ambrosie for having the guts to go to Ottawa for help. Jim explained the death toll in Southern Ontario and Quebec and that there are far greater needs for the Canadian public at this time than funding a pro sports league. Jim also delved into Thursday night’s NFL schedule release and looked at some of the salacious early-season match-ups. Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be featured in prime time on five occasions, which is the maximum allowable.
  • You can vote now on our Twitter poll for the Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions. At press time, Arash Madani was leading. Thursday’s vote was won by NHL Insider Rich Sutter.

The CFL can’t be in too much of a predicament, teams are still signing free agent players left right to monetary contract at this very moment. If the league wants federal funding then all franchises should be required to provide a all in comprehensive top to bottom ten year operations audit (no cheating) and then the govt can make an appropriate fair decision to fund or not to fund. I vote not to fund as things are way too sketchy and the CFL 8s not essential at this point in time. This league needs to press the pause button with… Read more »

Thinking … hmmm … let’s draw a line in the sand here. If the federal govt does help the CFL with some money and its directed to each franchise/team. Shouldn’t the City of Regina be entitled to a portion of said funds immediately upon receipt? after all the city does own the facility the Roughriders rent to play in. I would highly suggest the City of Regina protect their own self interests.

Serious question; can the Roughriders water boy claim CERB?

In Randy’s famous truncated statement did he take into consideration the numerical digits to the right side of the decimal point?

-The honorary member from Saskatoon wasn’t lobbing softballs his way either. So why blame Brad Wall? It didn’t sound like Ambrosie was as prepared as he should have been. That was the biggest problem. -A few new stadia may have to find events – what does Hamilton & Ottawa do? -Minor league for the NFL? Then why watch the CFL if it goes to 4 downs? There is no more “Canadian” league & I don’t see the NFL necessarily having much interest in a farm team carrying 7 Cdn starters or 21 roster players. Doesn’t interest me. Definitely wouldn’t interest… Read more »
