IMG_2829

Friday was Episode #121 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights

  • Rod and Dupes were joined by John Frenzy for The Rollout for Flooring Superstore. They discussed the Riders being shutout of Thursday night’s CFL Awards and Rod said Rider fans can’t be too upset. It came down to a vote, and that’s democracy. However he explained why felt Cody Fajardo should’ve won M.O.P. over Brandon Banks. They also discussed rumours of a coaching staff shake-up with the Riders, but Rod said he’s not putting too much stock in them.
  • 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk joined the show video chat to cover a wide range of topics. He feels Craig Dickenson may “tweak” his staff, but says OC Stephen McAdoo and QB Coach Steve Walsh should get a lot of credit for the development of Cody Fajardo. Dunk talked about coaching movement after the Grey Cup, and also discussed the Calgary-Montreal Vanier Cup match-up in Quebec City.
  • Travis Lulay of the BC Lions joined the show from Grey Cup Week where he’s working as an analyst for Sportsnet. He said not to put much stock into the CFLPA All Star team because a lot of times not all players vote, so it skews the results. Regarding the M.O.P., Lulay said Cody Fajardo told him that perhaps Brandon Banks had a better season than even he did. Travis also discussed the coaching change with the Lions.
  • Ticats colour commentator and franchise great Mike Morreale joined the show from Ontario and said he’s headed to Quebec City for Vanier Cup coverage on CBC. He also expressed his disappointment over the fact local radio crews aren’t afforded the opportunity to broadcast the Grey Cup, such is the case with the Bombers and Ticats this year. Morreale is also the Commissioner of the CEBL and covered this week’s addition of the Ottawa Blackjacks franchise.
  • RP Show Grey Cup correspondent Mike Abou-Mechrek joined the show from Calgary to report on the Grey Cup vibe. He was at all of the events on Thursday evening and offered a report. He said Grey Cup Weekend is kicking into high gear on Friday evening.
  • Blue Bombers great Chris Walby joined the show from Winnipeg and explained that he won’t be heading to Calgary for the big game. He said the Bombers are lucky to even be in the Grey Cup, and that the Riders gave the West Final away with suspect play calling last Sunday. “Bluto” said he’ll be watching the battle in the trenches on Sunday, because that’s where the game will be won.
  • Rider great Chris Best joined the bunker in Hour 2 and talked about the Grey Cup match-up. He’s picking Winnipeg to win. Bestie also said that although Stephen McAdoo’s playcalling in the West Final was questionable, it’s not fire-able.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who are you cheering for in the Grey Cup? Just over half of respondents said they’re pulling for the Ticats.
  • In honour show #121 the guys recognized sports figures who’ve worn number 21 in their career and the group includes Ezekiel Elliott, Peter Forsberg, Simoni Lawrence, Patrick Peterson, Deion Sanders, Roger Clemons, L.J. McCray, Al Ford, Doug Jarvis, Guy Carbonneau and Sammy Sosa.

Was certainly pulling for Cody but hard not to feel good for Banks. That guy was really a missed asset by former coaches. He is a super football player.
