HOCKEY WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: HNIDY, MAY & MORE
Wednesdays have always been a real big hockey day on The RP Show and Episode #954 was no exception on Game+ TV, WQEE, iHeartRadio and YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and The Moose opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Tuesday NHL leftovers including Leafs & Flames wins, and Florida has officially become Rod’s #1 team!, 2) Wednesday NHL appetizers including a massive showdown in Winnipeg between the Wild and Jets, 3) RP’s NHL Top 5 for Bet Regal are: BOS – CAR – TOR – LAK – NJD, 4) The Bottom 5 are MTL – ANA – CHI – SJ – CBJ, 5) The Blue Jays get spanked 7-2 by the Pirates in spring training, and 6) Randoms including the NFL QB Carousel and Wednesday night’s WHL games.
- Vegas Golden Knights broadcaster and Stanley Cup champ Shane Hnidy joined the show and recapped Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at Florida. The Neepawa, MB product said Vegas lacked urgency and said the team is trying to shore up details heading into the playoffs. Shane talked about how the team is trying to get back to the culture they enjoyed in Year 1 as an expansion franchise and said all the building blocks are there, plus several original players. “Hnides” and Rod also told many stories of their time together with the P.A. Raiders in the early 1990s.
- In Hour 2 we turned the show over to the audience and the topics included plenty of NFL and NHL talk.
- We were joined by Washington Capitals TV analyst Alan May and the former Estevan Bruin said the Caps remain afloat in the Eastern Conference Playoff chase but said leading up to the Trade Deadline, they lost six in a row which may have spelled the end of their aspirations this year. Regarding the 60+ trades leading up to the Deadline, Alan said he felt the Maple Leafs made too many moves but liked what the Oilers did by acquiring Mattias Ekholm.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Where do you expect the Blue Jays to finish in the AL East this year? At press time, the majority voted for 2nd place. Last season the Jays finished 2nd, seven games behind the Yankees.
