MONDAY CAT COUNTRY COMMENTARY – A HELLUVA WEEK 1
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
IT WAS A WONDERFUL OPENING NFL SUNDAY. EVEN IF MY TEAMS AND PLAYERS DIDN’T FARE SO WELL …
MY NUMBER-1 TEAM SINCE 1990 IS THE DALLAS COWBOYS AND IT’S BEEN A ROLLER COASTER RIDE EVER SINCE. IT CONTINUED IN PRIME TIME SUNDAY, AS A BRAIN CRAMP BY FIRST YEAR HEAD COACH MIKE MCCARTHY LED TO A 20-17 SEASON-OPENING LOSS FOR THE COWBOYS AT THE L.A. RAMS.
THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT WAS SEEING THE BRAND NEW, 5-BILLION DOLLAR SOFI STADIUM IN LA. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT HAS THE DESIGNER AS MOSAIC STADIUM.
I WAS ALSO VERY INTERESTED IN TOM BRADY’S TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS AND ALTHOUGH TB12 LED THE BUCS ON A TOUCHDOWN DRIVE ON THEIR FIRST SERIES AGAINST NEW ORLEANS, IT ALL FELL APART FROM THERE. THE SAINTS WENT ON TO ROLL 34-23.
TOM WOULDN’T HAVE SLEPT LAST NIGHT KNOWING HIS REPLACEMENT IN NEW ENGLAND, CAM NEWTON, LED THE PATRIOTS TO A 21-11 WIN OVER THE MIAMI DOLPHINS IN FOXBOROUGH. CAM DIDN’T THROW ANY TOUCHDOWNS, BUT HE GOT THE WIN.
IT WAS AN UPSET IN SAN FRAN AS THE ARIZONA CARDINALS BEAT THE DEFENDING NFC CHAMPION 49ERS 24-20. WINNIPEG FANS ARE ABUZZ AS FORMER BOMBER STAR CHRIS STREVELER GOT INTO THE GAME, RUSHING FOR A FIRST DOWN FOR THE CARDS.
AND IT WAS A FORGETTABLE SUNDAY FOR FORMER RIDER BOSS CHRIS JONES. HIS CLEVELAND BROWNS GOT SPANKED 38-6 IN BALTIMORE.
ALL IN ALL IT’S BEEN A FANTASTIC WEEK 1 AND IT’LL CONCLUDE WITH A MONDAY NIGHT DOUBLEHEADER TONIGHT.
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
