MONDAY CAT COUNTRY COMMENTARY – I’M DISILLUSIONED
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)
I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT … I’M INCREDIBLY DISILLUSIONED.
HERE WE SIT, AROUND 200 DAYS INTO THE PANDEMIC, AND I’M BEING TOLD OVER AND OVER THAT SPORTS DON’T MATTER. APPARENTLY NEITHER DO ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT, AND LIVE EVENTS.
AND I’M NOT EVEN FIGHTING IT ANYMORE, OR ARGUING WITH PEOPLE THAT THEY’RE WRONG.
IT’S JUST MADE ME REALLY WONDER WHAT I’VE DONE WITH MY LIFE, SPENDING IT ALMOST ENTIRELY IN SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT. WAS IT A WASTE?
THIS ISN’T A TONGUE-IN-CHEEK COMMENTARY TODAY, FOR A CHANGE. I’M REALLY HAVING A TOUGH TIME WITH THIS.
THE PANDEMIC HAS CERTAINLY SHOWN THE WORLD SOMETHING THAT HAD SADLY BEEN FORGOTTEN: THAT THE REAL HEROES ARE THE DOCTORS, THE TEACHERS, AND THE FIRST RESPONDERS. FARMERS TOO.
I’VE ALWAYS KNOWN THAT. BUT I ALSO KNOW 33-THOUSAND PEOPLE DON’T SHOW UP AT MOSAIC STADIUM EVERY WEEKEND TO WATCH A DOCTOR PERFORM BRAIN SURGERY. OR TO SEE AN OFFICER MAKE AN ARREST.
I’M CLEAR ON WHAT ESSENTIAL SERVICES ARE, AND LET ME REITERATE THAT I’M NOT ARGUING WITH ANY PART OF IT. THE SPORTS INDUSTRY IS CRUMBLING AND SO FAR THE GOVERNMENTS HAVE GIVEN THEM A STERN MESSAGE OF “YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN”.
MY HEROES GROWING UP WERE GEORGE STRAIT, MIKE MODANO AND JEFF FAIRHOLM.
WAS I SO WRONG?
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
