MONDAY COMMENTARY – DOG DAYS
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
I’m not entirely sure what they mean by the “Dog Days of Summer”, but I think we’re in em.
Not sure where your sporting interest lies these days but mine remains football and between watching as many CFL games as possible this weekend, plus attending a national 7-on-7 high school tournament here in Coral Springs, FL, my gridiron dance card was full.
And then my Jeep succumbed to the 100-plus degree Fahrenheit conditions, and humidity.
In truth, I guess, that’s where my focus lies at the start of a new week. Frankly I’ll be real glad to get back to Sask this weekend, and some cooler temperatures.
But the Roughriders are probably wishing their only problems were an overheated engine. Their season potentially went up in smoke Saturday night when quarterback Trevor Harris went down with a gruesome knee injury.
It was learned Sunday afternoon that he’ll require surgery and the pundits suspect his season is done.
Gulp.
And that is the debate as we plunge into Week 7 in the CFL: Can the Roughriders win games, or salvage their season, with back-up quarterbacks Mason Fine and Shae Patterson or shall they try to acquire one on the trade or free agent front?
Ironically even without Harris on the weekend, the Riders were still in position to beat the Calgary Stampeders at Mosaic as Mason Fine gave them a late lead, but the defense couldn’t prevent a game-winning field goal drive with no time left.
Real life drama. That’s why we love sports, but we must be reminded that it really has no bearing on our day-to-day-lives.
Now to get that Jeep running again.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Prayers out to Harris!
Hope big Jake gets a shot , Dickinsons 54yd attempt, with a kicker who’s got an injured leg was one of the stupidest calls he’s made!
