AND THEN THERE WERE TWO.

CONFERENCE FINAL SUNDAY IN THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE WAS THE LEAGUE’S VERSION OF THE FINAL FOUR AND WHEN ALL WAS SAID AND DONE, TWO TEAMS REMAINED:

THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS AND THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS.

IT’S GOING TO BE ANOTHER ALL-RED SUPER BOWL, THIS TIME IN TAMPA IN TWO WEEKS’ TIME.

AND SUNDAY PROVIDED ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING YOU’D WANT FROM A FULL DAY OF FOOTBALL-WATCHING. WE STARTED IT OFF WITH A CROCK OF CHILI AND WITH IT BEING IN THE MINUS-30 RANGE OUTSIDE, THERE WAS NO NEED TO FEEL GUILTY FOR STAYING INDOORS.

AND IT FELT SOMEWHAT NORMAL WITH JUST UNDER 10-THOUSAND FANS AT LAMBEAU FIELD AND JUST UNDER 20-THOUSAND AT ARROWHEAD. YOU GOT SOME SEMBLANCE OF THE WAY LIFE USED TO BE BEFORE AN INVISIBLE VIRUS TURNED OUR LIVES UPSIDE DOWN.

FOR THE RECORD, TAMPA BAY UPSET GREEN BAY 31-26 AND KANSAS CITY DISMANTLED BUFFALO 38-24 IN THE GAMES.

SO NOW SUPER BOWL 55 IS NEXT AT RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM AND TOM BRADY HAS LED HIS BUCCANEERS TO BE THE FIRST TEAM IN SUPER BOWL HISTORY TO PLAY IN THE GAME IN THEIR OWN STADIUM.

AS A TOM BRADY FAN, I EXPECTED GOOD THINGS FOR THE BUCS AFTER HIS DIVORCE WITH NEW ENGLAND BUT IT SEEMED LIKE A STRETCH TO GET ALL THE WAY TO THE SUPER BOWL IN YEAR 1.

I’M SURE THE MESSAGE WITHIN THEIR FACILITY THE NEXT 14 DAYS WILL BE, “WE’VE COME THIS FAR SO WE MIGHT AS WELL WIN IT ALL.”

AT SOME POINT, I’D THINK, IT’LL CROSS THEIR MIND TO WONDER WHERE BILL BELICHICK WILL BE WATCHING THE BIG GAME FROM?

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY ON CAT COUNTRY 98.
