MONDAY COMMENTARY – IT’S NEVER EASY

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 FM & Rock 98.5 FM)

IS IT JUST ME OR DOES LIFE SEEM TO HAVE MORE UPS AND DOWNS THESE DAYS THAN A RIDE AT DISNEYWORLD?

TAKE FOR INSTANCE THE MOOD OF THE RIDER NATION AFTER SATURDAY’S 23-17 LOSS TO THE CALGARY STAMPEDERS.

TO SAY NO ONE SAW THAT COMING WOULD BE PUTTING IT MILDLY, EVEN THOUGH THE RIDERS WERE ONLY INSTALLED AS 2.5-POINT FAVOURITES. IT WAS JUST LAST WEEK THE RIDERS WERE BEING HERALDED FOR THEIR LAST-MINUTE WIN AT BC, AND FOR SETTING A CFL RECORD BY SCORING TWO TOUCHDOWNS IN TWO SECONDS?

BUT NO, ON THIS WEEKEND THE STAMPEDERS WON IN WHAT COULD BE CONSIDERED AN UPSET AND THEY MIGHT LOOK BACK AND SAY THAT’S WHAT TURNED THEIR SEASON AROUND.

I’LL BE HONEST; I DIDN’T WATCH THE GAME SINCE I SPENT SATURDAY JET SKIING IN THE FLORIDA KEYS, GETTING READY FOR NFL SUNDAY, SO I’M NOT TOTALLY QUALIFIED TO OFFER AN OPINION ON THE GAME.

BUT THE RIDERS ONLY LOST BY SIX. IT WENT DOWN TO THE FINAL MINUTE. THE RIDERS OUTGAINED THE STAMPEDERS OFFENSIVELY AND WON THE TIME OF POSSESSION BATTLE. THE TURNOVERS WERE ONLY 2-1.

AND YET PEOPLE ARE ENDLESSLY DISSECTING CODY FAJARDO’S POSTGAME COMMENTS SAYING HE’S POINTING THE FINGER AT HIS RECEIVER GROUP, HIGHLIGHTING A LACK OF PLAYMAKERS.

TO BE FAIR, THE GROUP IS MISSING INJURED STARS SHAQ EVANS AND JORDAN WILLIAMS-LAMBERT, WHOM WERE COUNTED ON HEAVILY GOING INTO THE SEASON.

STILL, CALGARY WAS SIGNIFICANTLY UNDERMANNED TOO YET BO LEVI MITCHELL COMPLETED 64 PERCENT OF HIS PASSES COMPARED TO CODY’S 56, AND FIRED A PAIR OF TOUCHDOWN PASSES WHICH REALLY TURNED OUT TO BE THE DIFFERENCE.

SO NOW THE RIDERS HOST CALGARY ON SATURDAY IN A GAME WHICH HAS SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANCE THAN IT DID BEFORE THIS WEEKEND.

NOBODY SAID THIS WAS GOING TO BE EASY FOR SASKATCHEWAN.

I’M SURPRISED AT HOW MANY SEEM TO THINK IT WAS GOING TO BE.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY

Cody Fajardo had every right and then some to not only point fingers, but behind the scenes that one Canadian Receiver he should excoriate up and down. In any other professional league nowhere will a guy stay on a field making those types of drops and still be in the game unless his Birth Certificate is a certain type. Captain Canada Glen Suitor who should know all to well about being a screw up and costing a game says, “He’s having a tough night.” I sing the praises of the CFL at every turn. The issue is in the N.F.L… Read more »

I don’t think Cody was completely out of line, and he’s speaking out of frustration. The fact remains that he’s playing behind a young patchwork offensive line that has in fact overachieved despite their youth, a talented but extremely undisciplined Defense a la terrible tacking and constant drive extending penalties. Also a raw rookie has been his go to trusted playmaker over the last 3 games, the complete misuse of Kyrann Moore in the offense and the too little too late approach to the running game. The only thing I can pin on Cody is that he still tries to… Read more »

What’s not to understand with the Cody Fajardo post game comments? He threw everyone under the bus! Including the Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager, the head coach and his staff. Gm Jeremy O’Day apparently hasn’t gifted Fajardo with enough team talent or the necessary coaching intellect to get the job done in Saskatchewan, hence his displeasure and dissatisfaction. Cody’s partially right, but first and foremost Cody Fajardo has to look in the mirror to see the real problem, himself. There’s a reason he was a 3rd down garbage time quarterback most his career until the Saskatchewan Roughriders gave him his chance.… Read more »

Fajardo hasn’t looked right for a few games now. Pointing fingers and your own recievers is a bad idea and accomplishes nothing. Maybe he needs to look in the mirror..

I remember a gut named Kent Austin doing the very same thing.
